Took the spyder to the local track today for test n tune last weekend. As far as I know the current record is 10.40@140 Held by Nick Fox on a BW s362..

I hope to get into the 10s on the Hx35. Next turbo for me after this is the hx40.

Now onto last weekend.

Stock short block, BC272s, BC springs. VRspeed fmic and Speed density

Single rewired wally 255. 1000cc's

Redjack t/s manifold. Hx35 7 blade. 26 psi 17* peak timing.

Made 4 passes. First two I was locked out of second. Third, went 12.42 @ 116.1 with a 1.8 60'.. Im also on my every day street tires. Two of which are pretty low on tread.

Final pass! I had two goals today, 11s or 120 traps.. I got pretty close!! Now, I know my IDC's are ridiculous, but the car wasnt running "dangerously" lean so I left it for the time being. Im also no pro tuner!

If we have "records" for every turbo size in every possible housing configuration, why not a AWD spyder class. Anyone know what the FWD spyder record is?

I could see it being its own class. I mean, convertibles are always heavier than coupes so it does have a significant weight difference. idk, still cool whatever, record or no record.

Got a long way to go. What are you planning on changing?

Well, Im one for doing big things on little set ups so, Im going to change little as possible. Some more fuel and possibly turbo swap, which I most likely will need. However, buddy of mine is on almost the same set up except an inline 255 and larger injectors and he's busted out some low 10s.. Hes also on an auto.. Ill also need to freshen up the trans since its a stock 96 awd trans with probably years of abuse.

Nevertheless, Im going to shoot for this on the simplest set up I can. Im still on a stock 2g intake, stock 7 bolt WITH balance shafts and only revving to 7500.. Simple set ups going fast/quick are far more impressive than just throwing a ton of money at a car. Of course its going to go fast. Im probably not going to surpass his hp numbers on any set up in the next few years but maybe I can get a quicker slip.. Who knows!!

You're not the only one! John-ryan and I are both currently building ours for the record! I know john wants to retain a street car out of his, mine is a built auto that isn't really going to be much of a street car. Hoping that auto will give me an advantage over you gear slammers!

The Spyders are heavy. The car is as simple as it gets to pull my pig through the 1/4 @ 142MPH, still with reliable street-ability and good manners. It's not a car with a ton of money thrown at it, either. It's been a long road getting the car where it sits today...

Good luck on your journey.

First off let me start by saying the op and Nick are incorrect the spyder is the lightest of the 2g turbo dsm's. Mitsu only added the hollow x brace in the trunk as additional support adding 5lbs max to the body which is offset by the removal of over 200lbs by removing the roof and even more if the coupe has a sunroof. I can prove this with my old vert....when i raced nick in 2010 my car weight was 3276 with me in it at that time i weighted 273lbs my car had the spare tire and jack removed other than that it was full weight. The curb weight info is easy to find online look it up and be informed.

Btw i believe nick is 10.xx at 142 ill let him fill the xx LOL.

The last time I weighed my car with a full tank without me in it, it weighed 3240. Im 160lbs. Sure the spyder starts off lighter, add in the weight of the AWD components and you have just about the same weight as a regular hatchback.

Mine is 3300 lbs with half tank and race wheels on. Mark, where did I state that the spyder was the heaviest anyway? I didn't....just said it was heavy. That's full weight with a/c evo IX weight. My point was my car has exactly what it needs to roll the way it does. Nothing more. Let's not take my statement out of context...

Get some, Tom!

Ricky went 10.92 and 134mph on a HY35 with his old AWD Spyder; essentially the same turbo as yours with a slightly-smaller turbine wheel and housing. You have enough turbo to get to 10's for sure. ;)

Im hoping so! Right now my worn stock trans is hindering my 1-2 shifts terribly. Not to mention Im running out of injector already. :notgood: And to add on what you said, I know its enough turbo since Peepers is going low 10s on his 7 blade hx35 on a full weight auto 1g.

For those of yall that havent seen or noticed the log in the link, my IDCs on my last pass of the day on my 1000s were over 100%. FML. I was however seeing 56lb/min in 3rd and just over 51lb/min through the traps. Wasnt quite redline through the traps, only about 6800r's. Although I do know that being speed density those numbers could be skewed a little.

You SD table could use some work for sure. You're targeting 12:1 throughout the whole pull in your DA table, but you're deviating from that most of the pull and sometimes seeing as lean as 13:1. Something to keep in mind if you really feel comfortable running that lean or not.

I know I need to work on that. The car just started running lean like that when I turned the boost up a little. I assume its due to the injectors being close to 100%. When I first started tuning it on E85 I could stay very close to my target 12.1.. However like I said earlier, Im still just a novice tuner! Im happy I made the car run as well as it does but I do know it could use a lot of work.

UPDATE!!

Got the car back to the track again for the first time since this thread yesterday. Only thing thats really changed with the car was a Calan catch can and a TMZ trans, I also found a few boost leaks and addressed them. That took care of the car running lean somehow!. Spent almost 6 hours at the track and only got two runs in. First of which was a 12.0 @ 119 w/ 1.8 60' Log looked "ok" A little lean right after shits then hitting my target A/f up top. Boost was down a little at 25 psi, gave that a little turn and adjusted the launch control and gave it another go, clutch also slipped a little in third and 4th but only for a moment.. Left lane. This was also on everyday street tires and 3400 + race weight.

UPDATE!!

Great day at the track!! Almost got to one if my goals. Temps were hot and the track was great! Next time!
The car was still on the 5050 e85/93 tune i dynoed with (made 473/464) a few weeks ago,so it was quite lean since it was on 100%E. Shake downs and consistant improvement all day! I dont think i couldnt have gotten much better until the temps cooled some but i couldnt stay that late. Only thing thats changed was i went to a twin disk and added a 6pt cage. 30psi.
