Just purchased a 2g talon tsi and I had a little fun taking it down some fire roads and through some mud holes so I've decided to make it a rally car. For awhile I've been looking for a unique project and well I think I've found it.

Anyways my plans with it are just a full 3" exhaust cai coils that will keep the ride height stock and can take the beating of dirt/gravel roads, so cool rally styling rims and throw some t/a truck tires on it, fmic, full undercarriage skid plating, front and rear steel bumpers with a winch on the front, and finally turn up the boost to about 16 psi and get it tuned. Oh and those giant mudflaps LOL.

So right now what I need is a fmic with piping, a 3" downpipe and a manual boost controller so let me know what you've got! Also if you have any comments/suggestions let me hear them.

^^ agreed, you'd be surprised at some of the rules that may bump you into an upper class, which would take a good portion of the fun out of it for you.

You bought a car with a double wish bone suspension for rally?

Good luck not having that shit break. There is a reason the EVO is a McPherson setup.

a 16g would be THE turbo for a rally type car. Nice super quick spool. Maybe get some custom gear ratios in the tranny for shorter gears ya know? Always be in the boost. You may want to actually increase ride height if at all possible for the most suspension travel you can get. But idk, im just throwing ideas out LOL. Sounds like a complete blast.
I love the idea of a fast spooling off road awd car that you can beat the living shit out of. How fun would that be?

I'm not really looking to do a full all out rally car build, more of just a weekend warrior thing, something to have fun with out on country/fire roads. After I get more into it I'll probably start entering into some amateur competitions and then look into the restrictions and such.

Wasn't aware that double wishbone was bad for rallying though. Can someone explain why? Never really looked too much into rallying before.

I used to have a 16g in my tC and I would hit full boost (only 8psi) at like 3.2k rpm. Replaced it with a 20g and it hits full boost at about 3.5k rpm but pulls sooo much harder.

Anyone have suggestions of how to increase ride height? I'm having trouble finding a solution to this. One of my friends suggested hockey pucks :ohdamn: LOL

Lets go ahead and say Rally Cross/Road-warrior/Mad Max car.

If it were a rally car your first mod would be a $3000 rollcage. :D

Can't wait to see you start working on it.

You guys have to give him a break, if he wants to make it a rally car its not to make a career out of it, seems more like to have tons of fun building racing and breaking and repeating. let him do it, help him out with ideas. there is nothing cooler to see a non traditional off road car in with the staple.

hmm... Rally car... with the ball joint recall... I see lots of money spent fixing suspension parts in your future.

What's with the ball joint recall? These are the things I'm trying to learn about!

Pretty much nailed it! I'm not looking to dump 10k into parts to make this thing bulletproof but when things break I'm gana replace them with more durable parts. Also I'm not gana be jumping through the air or doing 90mph sideways with the possibility of rolling down a mountain Lol.

Everyone is acting like a smartass when in this thread there is only 4 people that really know what they are talking about.

You can look up "2g ball joint recall on the forums" so you can understand more.
It might not be the best car for rallying, but so its not the best for road racing or drag racing either.

Drag race: weak transmission
Road race: steering ratio and weight sucks.
Rally: doble wish bone suspension.

So.......if u want it bad enough you will make it fun regardless of stupid shizz people say.

If you're gonna build a rally beater you should reconsider jumping it!:)

Love the sh*t eating grin steel bumper. :D

I think the point some of the people (myself atleast) are trying to make is that Stage Rally racing is a motor-sport that takes quite a bit of dedication and work.

A comparison could be saying that you're building your car into a dragster, but it will never see a dragstrip.

I think it's cool that you want to build an "off-road" DSM, loads of people do it with loads of different cars, and they usually all have a cool "Mad Max" feel to them.

But a "rally car" would take thousands and thousands of dollars to build.

Either way, keep us updated, I'm sure it'll be sweet. :thumb:

Before you move forward, go to a rally cross and talk with some of the guys there to get some advice, information, and rules/regulations. They are really friendly and are open for interested parties to join in. You may find more of your funds going to drive train and chassis modifications.

I wouldn't at all compare this to a dragster that will never see a dragstrip. I'm not trying to build a all out wrc rally car or anything like that. I simply want a car that CAN rally but can also be a daily driver. I'm not gana be gutting the interior or putting a cage in it because thats way over the top for what I am going to be doing with it. I would compare what I'm doing to lifting a truck. Just because you lift your truck a few inches doesn't make it a mud bogger or rock crawler for the rest of its life. It just makes it more functional for whatever hobby the owner has.

I appreciate all the feedback so keep it coming. Also if you have any unique ideas or anything lemme hear them.

People are getting hung up on the thread title. OP isn't looking to compete right away in any rally events, he just wants to make his car more capable on dirt roads and such.

I honestly would do an AWD conversion because IMO FWD and rally don't mix.

That car looks mean. This is what i plan on doing to one of my talons since i have 4 dsms might as well make one different. Is this your car? Any more details? I was planning on possible extending the studs on the stock struts and adding a 1" to 2" spacer in between the shock and shock tower for extra height..looking to mainly offroad in the sand dunes like the english racing talon on youtube. No big ass jumps like they did though.. by the way the talon i plan on destroying(haha) already has underbody damage so no biggie..

It already is awd LOL but yes you are correct about the more capable part, sorry if I was misleading about rallying. Main thing that made me want to increase its offroad capabilities is the fact that its awd and went through mud and up some pretty steep dirt hills with shitty tires LOL.
