So you decided to go with aluminum rods after all? What made you change your mind?

I was going to as well but that group buy never picked up and bit the bullet for Manley I beams

Talking with Jeff and Daren at FFwd and a local who got his for a crazy deal similar to the group buy actually in price.

Here's some completed pictures of the 4 bolt swap and I just said #### it and painted the car myself today. Depending on how it looks when I go back it may get another coat but I think for my first car it came out pretty good. The pictures of the paint suck cause of all the dust and shit in the air because I had just got done and the fan wasn't in full blast yet but you get the idea.

What is Darren recommending as far as intervals for retorquing the rod bolts?

What is Darren recommending as far as intervals for retorquing the rod bolts?

He said he has customers that has been running the aluminum rods on the street for a while that have not had to recheck the rod bolts. He didn't say it was a bad idea to do so but he said that it's not 100% necessary. I plan on running mine threw a couple heat cycles with the rest of the engine than retorquing everything including head bolts again and then just calling it a day.

The paint is dry and looking pretty dam good if I say so myself. One coat of Coach black from Napa made it look like it has clear coat in there too. Starting tomorrow everything goes back in the car. I"m waiting on the seat brackets and cage padding to come in and I have a new fmic in the works as the SBR would have been too much work to go from 2.5 to 3" and back.

Hit it with some polishing compound and elbow grease. It will shine up even better.

That's for the end. Kinda icing on the cake. :sneaky:

I can't wait to see what it's gonna start looking like once stuff starts going in it and it starts looking like a real car. I bought it as a shell with a cage so this is a true build not just me modding a complete car. Everything from the suspension to the brakes to the engine to the bolt ons to the paint itself was all bought and then put on/in the car. The entire drive train will be new the engine too even the engine mounts. I take a lot of pride in this build and this car and knowing where it's been and where it can go is exactly I REALLY don't think I could ever sell this car because I couldn't put a price on what I have done so far and plan on doing.

More to come :hellyeah:

I like how you are posted lots of photos. The shell looks good so far. What are your plans for glass? Also, are you mainly going by NHRA rules? Just curious if you know anything about the legality of a window net. A local 1/8 mile track wouldn't let me run without windows last year in my shell.

I have a window net and the mounting hardware I just have to get it done but that will be like a last step with the roll cage padding. If I'm gonna do it from the ground up like I am might as well do it all by the book so I can race it wherever and whenever I want. There will be a chuete a battery cut off switch in the rear window net a fire suite the whole 9. One step at a time though. After I pick up this fmic kit tomorrow I will move to the internals finally so I can get stuff in the engine bay. The interior with the exception of the padding and the window net will be done by the end of this month.

Oh and like I said in the beginning anyone can talk about a big build their gonna do it takes another to do it that's why I post pictures because pictures say 1000 words so no need to talk the build up the pictures say it all :)

Nice going, Sean. You finally woke up. I thought you were hybernating...LOLLOLLOL
I like your list/post #245/. That is some change, but definately not pocket change man. Hope you have deep pockets.

I know that we touched on the dash bar subject a couple of months ago. Turns out you dont need one unless you have a modified fire wall. So you should be good!!

What do you mean dash bar as in the bar that connects the S bars to each other? I have one of those if that's what you mean. The biggest things I'm worried about now are the fuel cell which after seeing your install I want to do something very similar to that and how I'm going to mount my chute as the cage was not designed to have that triangular support bars for the mount in the back like I would like.

Ya, that bar. I wasn't sure if you had that one or not. Ill take some pics of how mine is mounted (the chute) and hopefully that can give you an idea or two. :thumb:

Looks good man, its really coming together nicely. You look like a kid in a candy shop in the last pic LOL :thumb:

The new Fmic kit should be here by the end of this week and I will mount that and take some more pictures of course. I went back to my original plan to get the whole fmic kit designed to go with my smim so should bolt right up only modifcation needed may be at the turbo end because the kit was on a gt42 and I have a hx52 but shouldn't be that big a difference. I have to pay a couple thigs left over from moving so I'll probably take a break on buying stuff for a week or two then finally try to get this engine done so I can really start making it look like a car. The biggest job I feel that's left is the wiring. Right now the whole engine wiring harness is in the hatch area and I want to mount the AEM EMS unit somewhere safe and out of sight and have most stuff work like stock to keep it sinple.

Here are some of the pics of where the chute is mounted.

No problem, and if your freaked out and think the chute will pull the bar out you can also weld extra bars to tie into the roll cage.

See I wasn't but now looking at it I kinda am LOL. You passed tech though it couldn't be that unsafe. I think if find a way to secure it to the frame or cage somewhere centralized it would be safer but your not just relying on the chute to stop you it's just a aid. Especially with a gutted track car with just the basics I think this will do.
