Program the remote control in the visor? [Homelink home link]

Sorry I couldn't find a section to put this question and seeing how this is really the only part section of the forum i use thought i post it here. In my 97gst I have a remote garage door opener thats built into the visor how do i program it to work with my garage door?

It's actually pretty simple. First, hold the two outside buttons for approx. 15 seconds. They will start to flash. Release them then. This clears out the memory and allows it to copy a new signal. Lastly, get your remote, hold the button of choice on your visor and press your opener button. Sometimes you actually have to touch the opener to the plastic on the Homelink. The light will go to a rapid flash as soon as it accepts the programming. Will be flashing slow at first. Side note, it will not work if your actual opener has a rolling code transmitter. Enjoy. :thumb:

Even though it's not really a mod, I think it's best suited in the non-performance forum.

yes i understand that couldn't find a spot for it and sorry but thanks for the info ima go try that now.

No biggie, I was even having trouble figuring where to move it

its called the "homelink system" there info on how to program it is in your manual.
The only prob is - i dont think it works with rolling codes

All i did was clear the memory in it like the book says to do and then u take ur original garage door opener and hold it next to it and push the button that u want to set it to while opening the garage door.

my garage has rolling codes and it works. *shrugs* luck of the draw i suppose.

if i recall correctly, you just hold the middle button down for like 5 sec, open the garage with the original opener, then let go of the middle button. stupid easy.

Mine didn't work when I tried programing it the first time by holding the original opener next to the visor because the code changes everytime you use it. I needed to program mine just like a regular garage door opener; hold the red or green button on the back of the garage door opener, wait for it to blink then push the homelink button. Almost as easy as the search Defiant performed.

can these buttons be used for anything else besides garage door opener? Seeing as I don't have a garage LOL

you can use them to break in to people's garages who perferably have a ferrari or lamborghini. sit outside there garage with your car wait for them to come home and use the garage door opener and pick up there signal to program your homelink system

Okay, I've got a beat up GS and a falling apart GST. both (2g)

I've been doing some part replacement and I've come to the driver side visor. The one in my GS had the programmable garage opener buttons but the GST did not. It came with a lighted mirror.

I replaced the visor but now the garage opener only works with my parking lights are on.

And suggestions?

Basically how do I get the power running without having to turn on the headlights.
