Plastidipped my car.

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

For anyone wondering how to take care of medium sized areas (grapefruit size) that have been damaged, like say someone or something scuffed the corner of your Plastidipped bumper thus ruining the smoothness of the coating :notgood:, all you need to do is:

-Take a razor blade and cut around the scuffed up area and peel it off.
-Make sure the area is cleaned before you spray a new coat with some soap and water. (Simple Green in this case would not be advised as it seems to prevent the Plastidip from settling/adhering correctly)
-Then lightly spray several coats of Plastidip over the damaged area and try to match the surrounding Plastidipped areas as best you can.

You might be able to tell that the repaired area may be a bit darker or smoother than the rest of the area, but if you can live with it then your all set! :thumb: Make sure to just TAKE YOUR TIME!

***NOTE***
Now mind you I did this (using a razor to cut away the damaged section) because the first time I just sprayed over the damaged area with no prep work,it looked like crap, plus I didn't care about damaging the paint underneath my layer of Plastidip (I previously rattle canned my car Olive Green) so if you care about the paint underneath it or might someday revert back to the original color, do not attack it with a razor blade!!!

Additionally, I want to revise/add onto my original post ( http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/382882-plastidipped-my-car-12.html#post152593256 ) on how to wash your Plastidipped car:

-Make a mixture of 1 part Simple Green to 4 parts Water in a bucket.
-Use a Microfiber Cleaning Sponge (blue and yellow ones sold at Walmart work brilliantly, $2 each and are machine washable).
-For washing my car I also had a sprayer attachment (Shower, jet, angle spray, etc.) on my garden hose.
-Park your car in the shade or somewhere where the sun will not hit your car when doing this to avoid excessive water spotting.
-Spray one section at a time (starting with the roof) with water and dunk the sponge into your bucket of Simple Green and Water mix, then ring it out over the area your cleaning and scrub well enough so as to get the grime and dirt off but not so hard as to do any damage to the Plastidip. (its strong but can peel if you scrub too viciously)
-Then hose off whatever suds are left and let it dry.
-Repeat the process for the rest of the car, preferably your washing as your going from the top down.

Wow this really took off....I haven't been on here in forever and I come back and see all these fantastic looking cars and parts.

And look at that G35 that was done in March....am I inspiring others outside the DSM-realm? Loving it. Keep up the good work!

Am not done my job...work in progress. :)

Didn't have time to wash my car.

Hope you like it.

I plan on buying a can of red tonight along with a can of spray on clear coat. I want to test it out on something and seeing if I can get a glossy finish. I don't like flat/matte color that much (it looks VERY cheap). I have searched around an haven't found any pictures with a good result of trying this so I figure I'll spend the $10 and try it myself.

If I am successful with that I'll probably order new fenders and hood and go to town on my car... Im under the impression, that if I don't like it I can just peel it all off by hand and my factory paint should still be fine correct? I don't mind spending ~$100 on an experiment, but if it ruins my paint then its now more like a $2000 experiment LOL

its been a few months and my red is holding up like a champ, here are some pictures of the car, CAR IS DIRTY

I wonder... does someone have any pictures of how well it peels from the car when you want to remove it? I have sen the pictures of it being removed from a Rim, but an entire car may be different

ive removed it from my door handle and all i did was make a cut and it peeled right off, i didnt see any damage to the paint when peeled either

Just peels right off...wont ruin your paint whatsoever

The clear coat sprays on flat. I painted my interior pieces with plastic paint and covered it with clear plastidip. Its been holding damn good. Ill post some pics tomorrow. Also around Reno you have to order any other color than black, ace is he place.

It won't hold up to an automatic car wash or power sprayer?

Honestly I have no idea about the auto car wash, but using my 2400psi 5hp power washer cleaned the Plastidip, but didn't damage it at all!

Oh and to those wondering about the clear coating thing, I Plastidipped my buddy's door molding that was basically just bare rusted metal, I cleaned it up, sprayed about 4 coats of black plastidip, and 3 coats of gloss clear coat, came out great.

We just Plastidipped my buddy's kouki 240sx last night. Still raining outside. 6 cans later, looks great!

So i started on mine yesterday, and now continuing to today. front bumper is done, front fenders are done. now to the hood... that should be it for the day. I call it... Operation: OtterBox.

right, with a huge area of grey.

yes it does peel off. it is a huge PITA to do. i painted my hood, and had to re-do it, and it took me, and 3 females with OCD to get half of it off. the rest i used a power washer to get off.

now my issue is that i repainted the hood, and there are paint lines. similar to what you would see using a can of actual spray paint. im going to put another coat on tonight to see if it fixes it...

You must be doing something wrong. I had to peel my first try on my hood off and it came off with a little force but not much more then pulling off some sticky tape.

And the good paint lines. I have found after a couple failed attempts on the hood that this stuff does not like to be applied when the hood is hot. By the time you spray the next line the old one is already on it's way to dry so it looks ghetto.
That or your not laying it on thick enough per line/ not overlapping the last line enough.

It's weird, my roof and hatch came out perfect the first time. Yet my hood has been a pain.

Anyone know where I can find blue plasti dip spray online? I found a website that sells black/white/yellow/red/clear but not blue. I know they have blue you can get it on ebay, but I dont have a paypal account.

i have no clue, but its the only place that i found that sold it, it was the ebay one you probably found but i went to there direct website
