Well I have 6 cans of blue, and 4 of black on order.

Going to do bumpers/doors/fenders in blue, hood/hatch/wing/roof/side mirrors in black. Will probably post up with pics @ some point.

you might need to put down more blue than you would black, i know when i was putting my red down i had to put alot more than what someone would have to with with a black, my car was orginally white and id say i used 4 cans just on the front bumper, 2 on each front fenders, 2 and half on each door, then 3 on the back fenders, i havent done the rear bumper, im doing the top black and i have the hood black also, what color is your car?

Dark green. And damn. That kinda defeats the purpose. Thats approaching 200$ after all is said and done, supplies, plastidip, etc. I could have my talon bumpers paint matched to the car for that.

I was going off the OP saying took him 10 cans to do the whole car.

How do you get the car to have this flat black look but with a a little shine to it instead of that flat gray look

Low gloss paint or a matte paint with a low gloss clear. That's what I did to a beat Civic with rattle cans (trying to be on the cheap) and it achieved the look I believe you are looking for. These pics don't really show it, but this was just after the first coat:

My Talon was painted in much the same way by the previous owner as well:

Yeah, those cars were painted matte black professionally. From what I understand, it's a pain to take car of. It stains very easily.

Those cars were probably either painted in satin black or vinyl wrapped in satin black. I highly doubt they would spray paint those cars.

Any car can be sprayed to look like that, basic Base coat/ clear coat with a flattening agent in the clear. actually easy to take care of, and doesn't change the color underneath. @ SEMA last year there was a BMW M5 that was sprayed a metallic Blue, with the flat clear, Totally sick looking.

the black of course is going to be much easier than other colors, so ten cans for black is what itll take, but if your using a different color its going to take more cans or youll get a crappy paint job and see thru to your original paint, if i used ten cans for my whole car i would still see white and the paint would be more of a pink than a red, i love how my car is turning out i just need to finish it, the website im getting it from is charging 3 dollars more for a can from when i was first buying them but i only need like 4 to 6 more cans (6 to be safe) and i have like 8 black already for the top i just havent gotten to it yet

I think someone who's had this on there car awhile (more than a yr) should try and peel it off and check their paint. I know everyones saying it just peels off. But how about long term effects?

Oh my God! I am SO glad I stumbled across this thread. I own a black TSi AWD Talon with clear coat and paint fade (just look at my hood in my avatar!). I am SO buying some flat black Plasti Dip RIGHT NOW and am going to start by doing the front end and seeing how it turns out. What a fantastic way to paint a car on the cheap!

Edit: Hi again Sandman, I seem to run into you a lot here on DSMTuners. Your Eclipse is sexy!
