anyone try putting a clear coat on top? like an automotive clear coat paint??

I'm not gonna do that with the hood, but I will try this on one of the front fenders.... sounds interesting. I think the whole idea of plastidip is to have that matte look.

Some one posted on here that the clear comes out like a foggy yellowed headlight. I never got a reply from PlastiDip about what clear coat would work without being soaked into the coating.

If someone finds out, post it up. I would only do scrap metal testing before spraying the car however.

ya im curious as to if it can become shiny or not? it would be nice to have some gloss to it. i also wonder how that blue looks on a car.

The coats I did are rough not really smooth like I thought it would be. But I bet after one more coat it will look even better. Its heat resistance is pretty boss. I'm gonna do some stuff under the hood and post up some pics

Just plasti-dipped my roof of my sunfaded 1.8L eclipse daily driver.

Gotta say I'm impressed for how much of a rushed job I did, 5 minutes of sanding, no other prep work haha. Looks way better. I'll post pictures tomorrow when its more lighted out.

I was pleased with the roof so I decided to do the trunk. I'm not a big fan of having the trunk and the tops of the quarters black, seems a bit ricey but at the same time I figure it'll look better then all that fade and I don't intend to do anything more for my $700 beater.

Pictures of the process, some befores, some during.

About 3 minutes of sanding /w 220 grit:

3 Coats on the Roof (actually looks a TON better in the actual light, in this picture it looks really uneven/splotchy, it isn't at all)

Forgot to take a complete "before" picture of the trunk/quarters but here they are after my good ol 3-5 minutes of sanding.

Round 2 on the hood, accidental overspray, I'll even it out later with my 4th and final coat for the hood. Messed up the roof alittle (Newb to rattlecans but I'm getting the hang of it) Will even out with coats 2 and 3 later on. Hatch is also next to receive 3 coats. For the door and fenders I think I wanna try to use a spray gun. :D

Finished up mine today. Did the b-pillars, and my buddy convinced me to do my hubcaps hahaha.

I'll probably peel it off the hubcaps, it looks stupid in my opinion.
However, all in all - I'm very satisfied with how it looks. I payed $700 for the car last thursday, $25 on the materials - and it looks a million times better without all the horrific paint fade/clear coat issues. There's still some here and there but the worst parts are fixed, scroll up a few posts ago to see what it looked like before I painted it.

I could probably list the thing for $1500 now and sell it haha.
I love this stuff, I made a bunch of mistakes and it was all so easy to fix.

It helps that the higher model 1g's generally came in two tone with the black roof anyway, so mine doesn't look out of place at all.

I think once I get paid I will redo my hood and roof. Unless I can somehow blend it all in. In person the hood just doesn't look right. Maybe I was using the wrong plastidip in the first place. Either way. It was a bold test. Now I'm gonna see how easy it is to remove.

Is this stuff hard to spray on. I was going to learn how to paint on my car. But I might think of doing this instead.

Not hard at all man. It's pretty much like any other rattle can paint except you can spray it on a little thicker without it running:thumb:

I see it comes in red also. has someone used the red. I want a little darker red. Like the cyane red pearl. I no its not going to be like that just semi dark like it. The red on the website looks a little bright for me.

also does this mean BY BY door dings that would be AWSOME!!!!

I have never painted anything on a car before doing mine in the pictures above. I sometimes held the can to close, didn't make proper passes, went too heavy sometimes, and yet it turned out great.

This stuff is VERY forgiving.

And if you put heavy coats on like I did my roof, then chances are door dings will just chip the plastidip, which you can then just spray some more on, it's that easy. It's amazing stuff for the budget minded.

That seams awsome. The red is a little bright fo rme but I like it on the 1G. but 2G's I like in darker colors. When I get a 1G AWD it will be baby blue hopefully at least. So maby I will try this stuff out. Has anyone tried to take it off? How was that?

I'm going to take off the heavy coats I've had on my hood. Do you guys want a video?

Only if the video includes removing the stuff on your bumper

It won't. Buuut if I did remove the stuff on my bumper. Id only replace it with all the jdm logos for all the jdm parts in my dsm.

The video would consist of the basic peeling off process nothing special maybe 2 mins long.
