I just bought a 94 clipse. this is my first project car I get to play with. I bought it for $850.00. My plans are to make it run atleast low 11's. wishing for low 10's. Wife says I can put about 12k in it over the span of 4-5 years so what should I get first?

And also do some searching. You will find A LOT of threads/info on here about going fast and getting low times. Also take a look at the 1/4 mile times (DSM 1/4 Mile Times) and look for people who are running the same times you want to. Then go look at their profile by clicking on their name and check out their setups. Easiest and fastest way to get an idea as to what you'll need to do to get to your goals.

Do yourself a favor and do some research. Read, read, and read some more. These forums are full of all the answers you need. When you ask a general question like "what's the first thing I should do to be able to run 11's or even 10's ?" You're leaving the door too open. It takes alot of hard work, money, and knowledge to make one of these cars run low 11's or 10's. Just take it slow and do your homework... Nothing comes easy.:)

I'm reading and going to check out the 1/4 mile times. I have nothing but time on this beast. I work on turbine engines for training airplanes for the navy never really worked on cars should be that different. Anyway around it should turn out fun.

Well not trying to discurage you or anything, but the N/T cars need a lot more work and money to run 10's especiallya 4 cyl. What i would do is swap engines and put a fully built 4g63 with bullet proof parts, bigger turbo, some good tunning and you might get there. Good Luck..

I got it super cheap that the only reason I bought it. Now I can dump money into it. besides its the journey not the destination.

Not plaining on keeping the motor that is in it. I was looking at the slowboy 2.4l longblock if it will fit.

Is it currently a 1.8L or a 2.0L n/t?

It's a 1.8 till I buy something. Engine sounds good though. just no power.

And just remember keep the FOD out of the turbo :D:D

pick up a turbo 4G63, build it very strong and drop it in. That's going to be 90% of the work. Once you get a 4G63 in there the turbo/injector/tuning etc.. will seem like a walk in the park.

850$ isnt that cheap for a n/t 1.8L 1g. i can find 1g AWD's in that price range that need minor repairs to be a fully functional car (were talking about a head swap because of skipped timing, or a 300$ pick n pull tranny, etc).

you need to do ALOT of work to make a n/t run even 12's, let alone anything faster. in the end, you would have spent more to make a n/t run 12's than a 1g awd to run 10's. not to mention, you are still fwd no matter what you do, which is alot harder to hit higher numbers in the 1/4 than a awd car.

honestly, id keep what you have now as a DD, and save up 1000$ for a 1g awd that needs minor work, and pick it up and start modding that. even if you are planning on swapping a 4g63 over, you will probably need a donor car anyways since going from a 1.8 n/t to a 2.0 4g63T is a whole different can of worms than doing a 2.0 n/t to a 2.0 turbo swap, so why even #### with it, just get a 1g awd and be done with it!

The 7 bolts are more prone to Crankwalk, although it can happen to any engine. But if youre doing a full build, you'll be good either way.
