how to run 10's?

I say, since this thread fails. That he should just fab up some massive nitrous jets, oh say a 1000 shot? Hit it once for your 10, and you're good to go.
 
I wanted to do this as well, Build my 420A and turbo it but once I started seeing the prices of parts and how fast I would be even after about 5,000$ I said screw that noise.
Then I bought my Awd Panda for 2,500 :)
Much happier now LOL
 
not tryin to be a debby downer dude but it would take too much work to make a neon...er 420 motor it the 10s i mean ive seen it dont get me wrong but i would defenetly look for a better platform..i have trouble driving an 11 second evo with a triple plate clutch .. i cant imagine how un-fun it would be to drive a 10 second one! :(
 
first of all, to who ever made the crack ab me being behind the driver seat, ive made several posts saying i jus bought this car, I BOUGHT IT WRECKED, and with no motor. and second of all, im just trying to figure out exactly what this car will do. i bought it because i was tired of the 5 miles a gallon i get in my 9 second camaro. enough of the wise cracks. i do know what im doing on vehicles, but i didnt no what i could get out of a import.

We're not trying to discourage you, it's just we see these ridiculous threads too often. Get to the 12s and then let's talk 11's. Then we'll talk 10's. Unless you have 10-15k to spend all at once, that's pretty much what you'll need to do. 12's, 11's, then 10's if you don't break or blow up something during that time period.

I've merged both of your threads into this one and cleaned up some of the more off-topic posts.

As you can see, the 420a is probably not the best option for your goals, at least not if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money into your car and then have it not be as reliable/streetable as you'd like it. I'm sure your 9-second Camaro was much more street-friendly.

As well, you can't just drop a 4g63 into your 420a equipped car, as I'm sure you know from your research on this site, which I'm sure you have done since acquiring your car and getting a membership here. If not, I highly suggest doing a search for the answers to your questions. You may find that it would be more economical for you to sell your current car and buy something different, or you may have to alter your goals a bit. It's not too hard to make a boosted 420a run 13's or 12s, but 10's is quite a tall order, even for 4g63's with built motors and large turbos.

BTW, your car was built in Normal, Ilinois and has a Chrysler motor in it. So much for seeing what an "import" can do, eh?
 
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I've had a fast 420A... But honestly... WTF? 420A World Record was made this year by someone that spent 3 years building the thing, making sure every little detail was perfect and spared no expense, and he barely touched mid 600's. Which is what 4g63's can do with some bolt ons and tuning.

True but at least 420as don't have the mechanically issues or a sloppy transmission like the 4g63s do:p

If you have a 9 second Camaro, why are you asking how to make your car run 10's? Shouldn't you already have some know how on making a car fast? I call bs on the camaro but good luck on the 420a build.
 
im sorry, i like fast cars. i no im not goin to get a 10 second eclipse on motor alone, i no nitrous oxide will be used. im trying to figure out the best mods to get the most power out of this car. im not worried ab the money or how difficult it is. i jus want ideas. i live with my parents so there are no bills, so i can easily just put all my money into this car. LOL. But i do want it as fast as i can get it. i no start off slow an jus go for the 14, but once thts done, im goin to want more.

So far I see that only a couple members have yet to really answer the question as asked. All your saying is is that its expensive and really hard to hit 10's with the 420a (which I agree that it would be and would suggest the 4G63 instead). That is besides the point! Answer the guys question, and don't bring up the crap about how he shouldn't be shooting for 10's when he hasn't even done 12's yet! Why waste your time and money getting 12's when you really want 10's? Thats just a waste of time and money. And michaelnieves there's a huge difference in putting a V8 in the 9's and putting a DSM in the 10's, if your unfamiliar with the car/engine it only makes sense to ask questions and see what the best options are, as well as what works and what doesn't, from those who have already done it. Obviously anyone can build an engine and strap on a huge turbo then throw some fuel mods in a car, but everything is in the tune. A poorly tuned car might make 430hp while the same car with a proper tune might make 500hp. With that said you just need to do some searching of the forums and and see what others have done, then from there decide on your build up from there, and decide what you really wanna do, then go for it! Just make sure you get a good tune otherwise you'll just be wasting your time and money anyways.

600HP with just bolt ons and tuning... ROFL

It may have been dont once or twice but doubtfull but its not a normal thing.

its like saying all you need to run 9s is a 14b, may have been done before but not a common occurance or anything.

Thats because every 10sec FWD DSM iv'e seen is a 4g63 or built (not street driven)...

Its not to difficult to look at the 1/4 mile times and check out peoples profiles..

You said you live with your parents? Then if you have a good job you should have plenty of money to get that 420a into the 10's. But, why not just make your v8 get into the 8's instead?

9 second car is pretty impressive, you have pics or vids?
 
only way i see you coming close is gutting the entire car, plexi gass windows,delete cruise/ps/ac/heater core. build motor to handle nos and lots.

I'm sure everyone's been here once in a while, unless you were borne with the innate ability to solve crankwalk.

We've got a couple decent cars up here at the 5000ft range, but most of them are the 4G63T. I would say best thing to do is drop an engine in the one you've got, drive that to and from work so you have the reliability & cheap gas millage you're looking for. Its understandable to want a street-able car that goes very fast, but I'd hesitate on anything that's faster than 12's to be a DD.

If you're interested in pumping out an insane amount of HP from a 4 cylinder get an AWD 4G63 (Talon TSI AWD, Eclipse GSX, Laser RS AWD, Galant VR4, etc) and start there. DSMs have been around for about 20 years now and things are well documented.

I'm not saying that you can't make power out of a 420A, just saying that its going to cost you so much more to do so. Since you're familiar with the camaro it would be like trying to build the same 9 second car out of a v6, it could probably be done, but with X amount of extra time & money.

The alternate option that you could do if you want something that's not going to be what you see on the track every day would be locate a Mitsubishi Expo or Mirage and do a 4G63 swap to it.

Yeah that does suck, sure beats having to trailer your 'fast v8' when you can drive your ricer home unless it breaks.
Boost is where it's at.

Ditch that trashed NA chassis and get something worthwhile, seriously.
Add up all the costs to get it straight, then getting an entire engine/trans assembly to START your build. :barf:
