You know I still havn't made up my mind yet of what color I will go with..I'm still deciding on, black or yellow..Or STI black, but that will be alot more expensive..But I do have a set of white rims that would look amazing on a black car..

Maybe you could paint it black and have yellow accents. Kind of like I did with red accents on my car. Then you could keep your wheels. Or a deep blue would look great with those white rims as well.

At my workplace:

Omni Plus MBP9700 (Black) Gallon: $174.95
Omni MR186 Medium Reducer Gallon: $23.95
Omni Plus MC161 Urethane Clear Gallon: $64.95
Omni MH167 Hardener Quart (x2): $81.90

$345.75 Total; and that's for a decent base/clear setup. Even our most expensive PPG base/clear black isn't as much as he quoted you- and as Colt4G63 also pointed out, you can definitely buy garbage paint for less.

Your "buddy" is blowing smoke up your ass. LOL

Depending on the actual desired color, paint can cost out the ass... I recently purchased some Galaxy black to paint my chopper project. It was $320/gal. I only bought a quart, so it was ONLY $90. A good quality clear should never be $500/gal. Probably closer to $100-$150 for a two part name brand clear.

For everything I needed for the bike, Epoxy primer, leveling primer, 2 base colors, clear, thinner, tape, tack cloths etc... was right at $320, so there is a lot of outside cost that runs the price up, but for just the paint/ thinner, no way.

I already have yellow accents..Yellow healiner, yellow door inserts, yellow trim panals..I was going to switch them all over to black vinal last year but I got to the store and didn't want to spend that kind of cash..

But it will be all new stuff When I finally get around to painting..I'll just have to bite the bullet and spend the money then..

As fas as the scheme..Ya black and yellow would look sick..So would black and white, But you have to whipe off your rims all the time when there white..So I might stick with the stock wheels..And figure out the paint later..All in due time..

Justin that what the links are for with the kits..KTgurl just did her car with the kit and it doesn't look bad.

Cheaper paints might fade sooner, or the clear might peel like OEM mitsu black does. A good quality paint probably wouldn't. That is what I would be worried about.

That is a good point tho..Cheap quality paint will fade sooner than you want it too..I have 4+ years on my paint no fading, but it has cracked especially on the front bumper..

The quotes I've got so far from two nice paint shops is, 6-8K and 3-6K. There is a few small dings, all parts have been removed. So the shop only has to prep, paint, wet sand and polish. I am going with single stage black and I am also going to be putting it back together. I'm bringing the car and parts down to the lower quote shop on monday to get an exact quote. This is turning out to be more expensive than I thought.

Whoally shit, anywher from 3-6k for paint and some body work..You might wanna try a small body shop, or a friend of the family..

Or hell macco..But Macco is a hit or miss thing..There is a thread around here about macco paint jobs and some suck, start to crack within a year..And some have held over over a few years...

Painted mine, so i can learn ive come a long way, its fun good practice for my future bes thing i taught myself, gives you the options of trying differnt paints as well. 3 grand damn, i always wanted to paint so diy.

I always use nason which is made by dupont. It is 130-150 with reducer and the catalyst. There are some cheaper clears that are about 80-100 for a gallon with reducer and the catalyst. Realistically you can get by with 2 quarts on the base coat. I'd definitely use as much clear as you can though. Don't be extremely worried about orange peel and a little dust. You can wetsand it out if you put the clear on thick enough. There will always be a little bit of airborn contamination even with a good booth. I just use a home made setup that is frames with 2x4's and covered with thick 8mil plastic. It works WAY better than painting in open air.

I don't want to do it myself. I have gone thru about 2 gallons of bondo in my life and I can never seem to make things look perfect (Not on the Talon), atleast not for a real nice black paint job. That's why I want it done by a professional. I have the flat board sanders/blocks, HVLP, air and such but I don't have a booth and I don't want to make a mess on my property or the wife will get all pissed! I usually do things myself to save money but this time I want someone else to do it :) Exact quote will be on monday.

I'm gonna do the paint myself on my old 79 Blazer myself, That has lots of bondo so I'm not worried about learning on that.

GL on the painting. Maaco is a franchised company so it changes shop to shop. Could ge ta shop that sprays and prays but then you could also get a shop to where from prep to clear it is all tiptop. If you paint it yourself at least do it in a somewhat controlled enviornment

After seeing the car he said the quote of 3000 still stands. He said he would let me know if the price changes due to body work. He said its hard to tell how much work its gonna take to make it perfectly flat for black paint. The only thing that concerns me is that I didn't get a reciept for dropping off the car so there is no proof that it's there. What if it gets stolen?

Dude you should have gotten some kind of receipt or peice of paper..I had a bunch of crap stolen out of my car a few years ago..Long story short, I had to pay for everything that happened to my car..

I went back and paid him $200 dollar deposit and got a receipt. He also made up a bill for all the work to be performed. I told him I wanted the front and back windshield sprayers shaved, the antenna hole shaved, the rear wiper hole shaved and replace the cracked windshield. The totall for everything came out to $4300. I'm going with it so only time will tell now ;) He has a couple cars infront of me so he said when he starts on it in a couple weeks I'm gonna have to give him 50% down.

If you've got the time, do the prep yourself.

Even a Maaco $300 paintjob will last if the car is sanded and primed before you let them touch it

so does anyone have pics of their cars painted with trinity paint//? im thinking of painting mine with their dark purple or saytona blue.....
