Oiling a Holset Hx35 from the head (theory)?..

I found from personal experience that journal bearing turbo's should always be fed from oil filter housing, where as ball bearing should be fed from head, just something I live by, there are some exceptions but this is usually the general rule I follow.

so after reading this thread, yesterday i installed an oil pressure sensor on my turbo feed line so i can see what kinda pressure i am seeing.

so im running a 6 bolt NT block(no oil squirters) with BSE kit i have 7 bolt helical oil pump gears, with a 90 OFH with a mild port, i even added an extra crush washer to the bolt that hold the relief valve spring. and i run 10w30 Valvoline full synthetic

so my oil pressure at my the OFH is 75 psi on cold start up and about 40-50 once its warmed up (idle is about 1k)

now for the sensor i installed teed to the feed line for my HX35. on cold start i saw 50+psi and after warmed up i saw about 30psi of oil.

I was kinda shocked, I was expecting lower. The reason I even did this was because I am burning oil only when my oil pressure is high.

I haven't gone for a drive yet to see what my pressure is once im driving around, im thinking about switching to a 5w20 just to see if the oil consumption stops.

im pretty stumped LOL

Your picture shows you checking pressure at the head location, but you say that you checked at the OFH? Did I miss something?

I think he measured oil pressure at both the ofh and the heads. Like a couple of folks mentioned just save the money and do it right and use the OFH:p. Remember every motor is different just because some people have had success oiling from the head doesn't mean you are going to as well ;).

Switching to a thinner oil is not going to cease any oil consumption. Quite the opposite, actually.

Yeah thats what i was thinking too LOL

I have two pressure senders installed one at the OFH and one at the head teed to the feed for the turbo

Edit:

also i am running a -12 return line and i have a restricter on the turbo as well
