holset oiling requirement at idle

have a holset hx40 with a restrictor and idle set at 900rpm. measuring the oil pressure i read 5-8 psi at idle when fully warmed. about 70-75 psi by 7500 rpm. what are people doing to increase the oil pressure at idle for the turbo. just run a heavier oil? running 10w40. or just remove the restrictor. but it will run higher pressure by redline. i keep reading its suppose to not fall below 10psi at idle

oil filter housing. i reading the oil pressure with oil pressure gauge taped right after the oil restrictor fitting before going into the turbo.

Ugh.

Have you researched the subject. You can over oil the turbine shaft and scrub the bearing with too much oil flow.

If you're reading 80psi oil pressure to the turbo you need a proper restrictor.

yea i researched it im getting the recommended amount by redline but not enough at idle. i dont wanna drill it out larger and than go over 80 psi at redline if im getting 5-8 psi at idle. maybe i just have to increase my idle to 1000rpm to get the idle to read 10psi of pressure at idle

Sir, your cars engine doesn't produce more than 8psi at idle. I sugggest doing more research

You should be fine. If you have a good drain setup you can get away with a little more oil pressure if you are worried about it.

That's what I was thinking.

I got a 1 inch drain on my HX40 which no issues and similar oil pressure.

Yep, I feed from the OFH, no restrictor and huge drain. After toasting serveral HX40's and having Jus rebuild them or repair them (usually), he has ALWAYS told me that whatever I am doing for oiling to the turbo, keep it up, because they show NO signs of wear on the thrust surface.....so I have about 15+ at idle and I am sure 80+ at 8700rpm's. If it weren't for the .55 housing, I would have never had a problem but those get my shafts red hot and I snap them. That is why I went T3 into a .70 housing and no more problems. I am pretty sure Jus would say the same thing. His pitch to me is as long as I have a more than suitable drain so the oil doesn't pool, it is working perfect. I did get a kink in my drain once and it was noticeable right of the bat, so I climbed under, changed it's routing a little and went on about the day.
I say feed it and feed it good and take the restrictor out. My 02 from my own experience.

Your car should most definitely produce more than 8 psi of oil pressure at 900 rpms.

I just got done making my 12 an fitting set up for my hx40, im going to see how it goes , i will switch to a t3 next year twin scroll set up,hoping not to go through the turbine issues my good friend marty has had. My set up is nice with good drainage.

You wont Vic, I can tell you what NOT to do . The thing for me, really, was the fact that I run only E85 and that stuff is HOT.

ill try that out. my drain line is a factory holset drain tube with the 1g oil drain flange welded on to the pipe to make it a direct bolt on and enlarged the hole on both the flange and the oil pan to match the hole.ill take the restrictor out and try running maybe like a 20w50.im on 10w40 right now. and maybe increase the idle to like 950-1000 rpm.i have the oil filter housing ported.and have no balance shafts

my holset hx40 pro actually has a fp31 turbine housing thats been machined to fit the hx40pro ten blade turbine wheel.i also was runing the bep bolt on and got rid of that housing.

im measuring the oil pressure to the turbo by using a inline gauge adapter coming right off the oil restrictor thats on the oil filter housing.
