I have a 1G 6bolt Talon. I was putting a small 16G on with a pace setter tubular manifold and found the turbo didn't sit at the same angle as with the stock mani. It was like less than a quarter inch off, so I bolted the turbo to the drain tube first. Then the turbo and manifold flanges touched on the front side, and had a quarter inch gap at the back, so I kinda forced them together. Still couldn't get it to bolt up good, so I bent the drain tube enough to bolt up perfectly to the turbo. Now here's where the problems at. I start adding oil and found oil running out the engine. I thought it was coming from the plug hole you insert the screwdriver in to hold the balance shaft still. I was wrong, there's a separation between the head and block, and oil pours out when added. Do you thing forcing the mani and turbo together pulled the head lose a little bit? I'm in the process of pulling the engine now, just waiting on some dry days. If it did pull lose, do you think there's serious damage?
Thanks,
Justan

if that indeed pulled it loose it was going to come loose soon anyway so dont feel bad. if you did not run it out or vary low on oil then there should be no real damage good luck man :)

I doubt if that caused the head to lift. What is more likely is you stripped out the exhaust mainfold bolts. Can't remember which one, but it is in an oil passage.

Very highly unlikely you pulled the head loose. Can you get a picture of said gap that you created or where the oil is coming from, will help to diagnose the problem more easily.

Your head should be safe. Unless you have super human powers, i dont think you pulled the head loose. Id hold off on pullin the engine. I think SrKegler is right. You stripped out the exhaust stud that has an oil passage by it. Good luck tho

Its coming from that gap. Its leaking from the intake side of the engine. I already took all the accessories and stuff off and unhooked all the connectors. All I have left is to remove the tranny to engine bolts and pull it out. I'll post some pics soon. Thanks Guys...

This is the gap. I pulled the engine Saturday. Hadn't tore it down yet, I think im going to get a set of head studs and a head gasket set.

WTF

It is like you are missing a head bolt, it isn't torqued down at all, or the head is severely warped. Do have the head checked for flatness before reinstalling with your new equipment.

Whoally hell..Umm ya what he haid..

It looks like your not torqued down all the way..

But if our going to teardown and get new studs, why not..Also having a machine shop check for warpage, would be a good idea..

Picture isn't very clear. However, I have never seen a head warp as much as he says the gap is. Now maybe a corner of the head broke off but from where he was tightening the bolts on the turbo, all the pressure would have been on the front side of the engine.

Wonder if it is just a blown out valve cover gasket. Hopefully. Going to be interesting to find out exactly what the problem is.

Yea I'm gonna check it to make sure its good. The guy I bought the car from obviously didn't know what he was doing. So he probably missed tightening( I doubt he knows what torqueing means, LOL) some of the bolts. There was so much loose when I got it. But another question is, if something was loose, would that affect it running and driving, cause before putting on the turbo, I was driving it.

Can you post videos on here, cause I can make a vid of the oil coming out that gap. Its definately not the valve cover gasket. And I figured forcing the turbo on lifted the back side since there was downward pressure on the front side.

I don't see what you hope to gain by posting a video, so don't worry about it. Forcing the head and turbo together won't cause the head to come loose if it was properly secured in the first place. With it loose, it theoretically may not have caused any trouble until you installed the turbo and broke the seal free. That's neither here nor there now as you most definitely have an issue you need to address. ;)

At the very least, pull the valve cover and check the head bolt closest to that point for looseness. Then you'll have some idea of what the issue is or is not. Perhaps the threads in the block are dirty and the bolt reached a point it would read a "fake" torque. Maybe they stripped. Maybe the bolt came loose during operation. You'll know as soon as you look into it further.

Ok... So I went out and bought a straight edge and a feeler gauge. Measured the head and the block, both were inspect. So I then went bought a head gasket. Today I put the head back on, and while doing so, I found the problem. When the guy put the head back on, he put the head stud washer off the corner that was leaking on the front corner. So I think thats how it was able to wedge up a little. But its not leaking anymore.

Yes, some people should definitely not work on cars. I don't know how you wouldn't notice two washers on one bolt and none on another right next to it. Oh well glad you found the problem, hope you get it going now.

Glad that was the only problem and not something more serious haha. Gotta love the previous owner mods right?

Edit: I hear you on the mosquitoes. Apparently my parents thought it would be a good idea to build a house on a plot of land that is half swamp.
