Ok so this might be a dumb question but i am not sure what to do. I had a 98 eclipse gs and i just recently got the 95 talon tsi awd and i am wondering whats the best oil to use when i do the oil change next week if i do not know what the previous owner was using in the car before.

now i have seen some people say on other post did you go from regular to synthetic oil.

does it matter what i use in my oil change what should i do, and what would be the best filter to use any specific kind. sorry for the dumb question i don't wanna put the wrong oil in the car.

i know this cars are different from the non turbo ones.

I did read the article and its pretty much saying do not use mobil 1 10w-30 now i think i will prob go with
Valvoline VR1 or brad penn if i can find brad penn around her locally, might even try the rotella t6 oil.

but would i get it 10w-30 or something different like what they were using in that article 20w-50.

So in the end it did not matter what was used before i got the car? Are all those oils i listed syntactic oils or do i just use none syntactic.

Dont use brad penn if its a street car. It contains no detergents that help to clean and suspend particles. Stick with the vavLOLine or rotella t.
I personally use rotella t 15w40, the regular dino.

::Edit::

Sorry I see the regular Brad penn does contain detergents. I swear the racing oil did contain zero detergents be it seems I am wrong.

yea its my daily driver car so i don't need to use syntactic oil i could use rotella 15w40 or something similar to that should i get 15w40 or 10w30.

I want to just get the right oil did not think there was so many diffrent choices just want my car to run smooth also the 2nd gen takes 4 quarts of oil correct.

ANY 10w/30 detergent brand name oil can be used - both dino and synth. Motor won't know the difference.

ONLY big difference is using mineral based oils and PENNZ oil, which is paraffin based oil. Use one or the other and don't cross the two or mix the two

Just keep the oil level where it belongs and proper oil changes used and the motor will like you.

Seriously. It doesnt matter what you run in it now. Truth of the matter is its not going to help much now. You dont know what the previous owners used, or how the motor was take care of. A decade of abuse is not going to be reversed with special oil.

I use prefer diesel oil because of the high zinc and phos levels to reduce wear and high detergents to clean help keep things clean. The weight is whatever you want to run really. Its personal preference.

Just use 10w30. yea its probly around 4 quarts more or less, just add oil until your dipstick reads too the second line, start the car and then check dipstick again.

what would be the best type of filter to use FRAM or any specific brand and thank you for all the help.

+1 on the Rotella T6 5w-40. Run it all year round myself. Cheaper than mobile 1 at my walmart and pretty damn high in zinc for an off the shelf oil. Comparable to some racing oils AND it packs detergents? :thumb:

NO FRAM! Wix or any filter made by such. Champ labs filters are pretty good as well (K&N, Purolator, etc.) OEM doesn't hurt either.

10w30, wix filter.

People suggesting Brad Penn are nuts. Unless you are making some serious power, it is not necessary. That shit is too expensive for use a stock motor would. If you have built motor and a big expensive turbo running some serious boost, then run Brad Penn and ask no more questions.

Castrol Dino 10w30 oil always treated me well.
