no balance shaft belt

I'm doing my timing belt (just got the car and the belt jumped) and there wasn't a balance shaft belt on there and i dont believe the balance shaft was removed.

Is it fine to run it that way with no belt ?

If you still have the balance shaft on there then you need to have that belt. If that shaft is not lined up then you will get a noticable shake in your motor.

If the balance shafts aren't removed then yes you will need a belt. Be careful when putting it on because the possibility of it looking correct but the balance shafts being 180* out of time is possible. You'll notice a good amount of vibration that isn't normally felt. However if your not positive that they are removed take a picture of your front case if you can and we will help you out. Or you can drop your oil pan and look up in there for them.

There is a service hole that enters to the shafts that allow you to figure out if the are placed correctly. You can also do the fall method by watching which direction the shaft free falls.

Now would be an opportune time to do a BSE (balance shaft elimination). Just get it done while you have everything apart and then there's zero need to worry what position your unbelted bs is in

hey is it possible to do a balance shaft elimination with just the side cover off and oil pan or do you need to have the whole engine apart? and will the elimination kit for a turbo model work in a n/t since the engines technically the same? sorry for the questions but I've been trying to look this stuff up and never find it with the time I have.
