So I'm doing a "belt overhaul" on my talon since I have to remove everything freaking thing to get to the balance shaft belt LOL And I wanted to show yall what's wrong with the belt and get y'alls opinion on it.

Here's a better pic, and the timing mark on the balance shaft was roughly °180 degrees off

Can it be deleted with the engine in the car?
Yes. You need to pull the oil pump so you can remove the rear balance shaft and replace it with a stub shaft. You won't be able to get the upper shaft out which is the one that's driven by the belt. Leaving it in and just leaving the belt off is an option.

If this is a daily or often driven on the street you may want to consider just replacing the belt if the shaft still rotates freely. You will pick up some vibration from eliminating them but experiences differ from person to person. Some notice hardly anything and others have noticed a big difference. If the upper shaft is locked up or has any sort of binding/resistance when turning it I'd suggest just eliminating them and replacing the balance shaft bearings later on down the road if you have the engine out.

It seems to be turning fine so I'm just gonna leave it how it is and replace the belt, I have an evo motor that in planning on building in the future, ill make sure to remove it from that one.

So I've read that marks on the bs can be aligned but it still be 180° out... how can I check and make sure this doesn't happen?

I was talking about the mark on the balance shaft gear.

Its says its lined up here but I read that it can still be out 180° but that post could have been wrong...

You need to pop the small Phillips head screw in the balance shaft bores and stick a small screwdriver in there to confirm it is in the proper orientation. You can also rotate the oil pump gear and the gear will fall left or right depending on which way the shaft is clocked at that time.

Sorry yes the one you pictured is fine since the sprocket is bolted straight to the balance shaft. It is the oil pump gear that has to be timed properly. If 7 bolt is like a 6 bolt there is a screw you can remove from the back side of the block and then you can insert a 1/4" drive extension which will go into a hole in the balance shaft if it is lined up properly. If it is not rotate the sprocket once until the extension fall into the hole and the sprocket will no longer be able to rotate either direction and the mark should be lined up when this happens

How will I know if its in the proper orientation? And which way should it fall if it's correct?
This is just copied and pasted

rotate the mark on the oil pump sprocket until it is pointing straight up, and let it go. If the sprocket rotates towards (counterclockwise) the timing mark on the engine, the oil pump sprocket is aligned correctly. If it rotates away (clockwise) from the mark, spin the sprocket a full turn and test again, and it should properly rotate towards the mark now. Now line the mark on the sprocket back up with the mark on the engine.

no not really , but i have a manual so i will look it up to help me better understand it.
The balance shaft is just a weighted shaft. The oil pump side the problem is that it isnt a direct 1 to 1 like it is on the front shaft. For the shaft to be "in phase" the weight has to be on the bottom when all the marks line up. The oil pump gives it a gear ratio so even if the mark is lined up the weight isn't necessarily at the bottom. It lines up every 3 turns if memory serves. So, if it's lined up, weight at the bottom if you move the gear away from the mark and let go it tends to go back to the mark. That is the "fall method". It sometimes doesn't work because the friction in the seal keeps it from moving. The book method has you take out a bolt on the block and insert a screwdriver. The screwdriver only inserts when the weight is at the bottom because out of phase the weight on the shaft blocks the hole.

Whenever your ready to do the balance shaft elimination do not buy the eBay ones. I made that mistake but caught it in time. Just trying to save you from a future headache.

Ok the marks are almost dead on but not perfect, what do yall think?
