New times on the Holset HX-35

Hey guys, great times you both have.
I'm drag racing retarded, but I'm curious how you guys have damn near the same trap speed, but Mike is almost 7/10's quicker down the 1320?

60 foot times and better shifting can cause this. My first time out I was hitting 2.05-2.10 60' times and was getting 15.3 all stock except 3" exhaust and I managed to lower it to 14.5 just by hitting 1.85 60' times and shitting a little faster in every gear.

Wow, that's almost a full second.
I had no idea a better launch and faster shifting had that much of an impact on 1/4 mile times.

Nice times, it makes me wish I held onto the Holset I had.

As for the 3 bolt comments, I've cut a 1.68, 1.69 x 2, and numerous low 1.7's on my stock Non-LSD 150k+ mile 3 bolt in my Galant. Oh and thats with stock size 195/60/15 Kuhmo Hp4 all season radials.

Know I want to hit my self for selling the HX-35 and going with a 20g.

Nice time. To Larry L, year old thread revival ftl.

Where are you people finding these turbos!?? Are people just looking through junkyards or is there a few vendors out there selling them new?

I thought about going to a dodge dealer just to ask the cost but I figured since everything else at a dealer is a arm and leg, why bother.

My 60's have never been that great. I rarely hit 1.7's, I've maybe pulled 4-5 of them total in 2 years of track racing and well over 100 passes. I honestly don't know what I can do to get them any better. I run 225/50's on a 8" rim, maybe go wider on the tires?

Mike,
First off congrats! Those times are awesome. I have spent most of this past week researching the HX-35 which is how i found this thread. And yes, those are some of the best 1/4 mile times i've noticed on the HX-35. I'm wondering what your vehicle race weight is w/o you in it?

Honestly your car has 10's in it already and some cool air wouldn't hurt either. Assuming that you won't break traction of all four wheels when launching the car harder you can definitely get those 60' times down some. Although a half decent 1.8 60' time may be what's keeping your drive train in one piece. My last visit to the track i was having some issues with the clutch slipping " i heated it up on my first past and it never cooled down enough" and my bad passes were still in the high 1.8s with the clutch slipping some. I have the same size tires you run on a set of FD RX-7 wheels 8" wide. A couple weeks before that i pulled a 1.74 60' and the difference between a 1.74 with the clutch grabbing and a 1.87 with the clutch slipping some is a world of difference. The 1.74 threw me back in the seat and the car went to the right and pulled like a raped ape through 1st. This is on a 14b turbo with a 7cm housing BTW. My best 60' time was on my old car with stock wheels and stock size tires "street radials" and that was a 1.67 60' "big 16g" and that to me felt like a roller coaster ride. But that was in a '93 with a 4 bolt LSD rear. So when your ready to push the limit of your drive train work on that 60' and enjoy your 10sec pass. What is your cars weight and what rpm do you shift at, also stock cams? Thanks and good luck, you give me hope for a HX-35 to make it on to my car, i want to feel the power!

Also what size oil restrictor do you run and where did you buy it. I have no bal shafts so i know if i run from the filter housing i need a restirctor and from the head might not be enough pressure to the turbo. Which oil feed and oil drain kit did you go with? Sorry for all the questions but there are very few complete holset 1g's with good results from what i've seen.

Wow, just wow.....Look at the date on the thread.....

Mike no longer has the car.....He is now building a different hx40 car...

Yeah i saw the date but figured 2months wasn't that dead of a thread, now i have been known to comment on a 2 yr old tread before someone pointed it out to me.

That car was on point, any idea why he got rid of it. What's the HX-40 blowing boost into?

Yeap sold that car a long while ago to try a different platform which ended up bringing me right back shortly after. I now have a 92 AWD TSI with a built motor, rebuilt trans/welded center diff, sporting 280's higher compression and a HX-40. I'll update my vehicle details page when I get this thing to the track, but its still in the build process in which I hope to finish up next month. The old car was nearly tapped out and I couldn't see pushing it much further. But, I have no doubts the new build will out perform. :)

Thats a pretty good setup. As for the oil sending if your running a ball bearing turbo you can go off the head. Thats what im using for my 35R. Non BB you can use the oil housing. So far I really like my 35R and I have the standard Mitsu mount for the hot housing. But good luck with yours.

No, not all journal bearing center sections are the same. There's info on the oiling in the holset threads, and there's even a holset oiling thread. As well with no bshafts, I've blown oil out the seals of my 18g and 16g feeding from the OFH.

Yes as said above, there are over 40 pages on this site referring to the installation and oiling of a holset turbo. They are thrust bearing turbos that come off of diesel trucks so it's a whole other ball game. If i get a HX35 i'll be feeding it oil from the head since i have removed my balance shafts and oil pressure is increased.
