well every one has a diferent opinion on the head but for the amount of boost u will be runninga 1g head will muve that volume of air more eficienly than the 2g onebut that is just me
big ole hogged out runners that run straight into the side of the head and then make a 90 degree bend to enter the cylinder is efficient? Fact blue ballz on here made over 600whp with an untouched(runner) 2g head and made way more tq than a 1g head could produce. He broke the DSM tq record on Torque Freeks(not sure how they spell their shop name) dyno. The only thing that limits the 2g head in stock runner form is chocking out at higher than stock rev ranges.(or so I have been told).

Sorry to hear about your motor Wes. Thanks for trying something different and giving us non NABR the info. Good luck on you future ventures and I hope to see more in car footage because I love watching your 10.2 videos :) :rocks:

Hate to hijack the thread, but was that fully filled block or partial filled? I had thought of doing a partially filled but if it doesn't work then I'm not going to waste a perfectly good block and machining time.

A properly ported 2g will own a 1g head any day. The 2gs have more material that you can take out to perfect your flow, and also a stock vs stock comparison the 1g wins, just bc it flows more.

But a 2g head has much better shaped runners, flows at a higher velocity and with less turbulance.

i was wondering the same thing was the block street filled or was it a full fill? I want to go with a big setup and this is the big IF! if i fill it would only be a street fill like 35-40% but i like to cruise around and i dont want a new engine in the trash because of a stupid move that you already have the answer to.

This motor was fully filled. I built a half filled motor a few years ago and that one worked out just fine. If your going to street drive and just have to have some fill to make you feel better I would recommend half filling, unless you want to sacrifice a motor trying a full fill like myself ;)

I am pretty excited about the new motor. It should really help bring the GT42 to life. It has 10% more displacement, a bit more stroke, and a bit better rod/stroke ratio to top it all off. It should be about the best 4G6X based combo possible.. at least on paper.

If you are talking about bare metal cylinder heads and you say a 1g head is better than a 2g head then something is wrong with you. There is nothing worse about making the same hp if not a little more and way more tq. Also a properly ported 2g head will have 0 material taken from the floor of the runner.

But enough about the cylinder heads. When do you think the motor will be done Wes? You live in AZ now right? so you should be able to drive it anytime.

I live in NM actually. The new motor was ready to be assembled untill I threw a monkey wrench in the plans by deciding against the filled block. I need to concentrate on making money for the next few months so I am not in a hurry. Plus, I have a 92 Laser I am throwing a 2.3 stroker together for so I will have a nice winter beater ;)

There was a certain street driven Supra out there that dynoed something like 1500whp with a filled block. It was street driven, so that gives me a bit of hope.

Thats Marco's supra from Sound Performance. If I am not mistaken, His block was only partially filled so coolant was allowed at the top half of the cylinders (at least that was what I was told by a friend of his). I suppose he could have heard Marco say the top have of the motor (maybe meaning head) and assumed me meant top half of the block. I dunno but good luck with the car!!

Yeah you guys have such rough winters there.

Off topic question but do you know Adam West? You came up in a conversation we were having yesterday.

2.4 block?

Hey Wes, sucks I had to find about your motor this way. But that is life of us in the military I suppose. I am glad to see the car fully assembled though. See ya around the end of Jan.
