Can someone tell me if there is a giant o-ring on the HX35/40 compressor covers to seal? I see a groove on mine (below the snap ring groove and the step for the backplate) but no o-ring, and when I boost leak tested it sounded like it was leaking from the cover....

The OEM Holset oil feed fitting uses a rubber o-ring to seal to he CHRA. Does anyone use a rubber o-ring with their generic aftermarket male-male feed fitting? I had used a copper crush washer, not knowing an o-ring was supposed to be there.

Thanks

There is no O-ring on the comp. cover. Holsets tend to leak from there over time.
I can't tell, if anyone uses O-ring for the oil feed. I personally don't . And I think it is too hot on our cars for o-ring. You better off with crush washer, or even without it. I never had one/running Holset for years/. Once the fitting is tight and stays tight over time, iit shouldn't be leaking.

It is however VERY important, to make sure, that you don't have oil leaks, especially there, because is too close to the manifold and hot oil on hot mani is FLAMMABLE !!!

Yeah, no ring on mine either. Not sure about the groove though. I've never seen a groove on any holset there. I broke a motor mount recently and was using my holset for a motor mount for a while with out knowking it :ohdamn: and now it leaks a bit from behind the cover. I don't think it makes that big of a difference though. It'll still take about 15-20 seconds to creep back down from 1.5 bar when I stick a pressure tester on it.

I heard some people RTV the backing plate to keep it from leaking. Ever heard of that Andy?

mines rtv'ed almost all turbos will leak around the compressor cover. just don't use a lot would hate for some to make its way to the fins and throws the turbo off balance.

Yeah, I actually put RTV on mine too. I did a BLT and the only leak, was there, at the cover and the c-clamp.

When I boost leak tested my compressor cover it was leaking there for sure. And this was on a brand-new HX40! Jeez. Oh well, a turbine fin broke off my turbine so it doesn't really matter haha.

A new CHRA is on its way.
