2G metal shavings appearing in coolant although, coolant is flowing when engine gets to operating temp

i took off my thermostat housing cap and let the engine idle until it reached operating temp, it began to flow coolant how it normally would which leads me to believe that my water pump is fine, but it does not explain the metal shavings in my coolant. does anyone know a possible reason for this. there is no oil in my coolant and vice versa.

How long have you owned the car and what has been done with the cooling system?

I ask because all those generic stop leak additives are literally just aluminum shavings and glycol. Perhaps some of that was added to the cooling system and the shavings aren't from your engine being damaged. Maybe see if the shavings are magnetic to confirm.

If it's an aluminum radiator, there you go, it wasn't flushed out completely when fabricated.

Did you install the radiator or a shop?
All that stop leak is junk. It’s for idiots who can’t diagnose or properly work on a vehicle to include the simple cooling system.
