Megan Racing: Updated AWD Downpipe and Catback! (3in.) Opinions?

I do have pics of the piping installed on the car on my bud's camera. He's supposed to be getting those plus some additional pics to me. I cannot recall if I snapped pics of the exhaust before hand, but if so they will be posted...

Edit:
Here is another pic my buddy got to me. You can see some of the piping in this one..

has anyone bought a non-prototype yet? In most of the vendor pics the exhaust has a "burn tip" coloring to it. I was wondering if thats how they came...

Does anyone know if the updated Megan downpipe will bolt up to the Apexi N1 catback? I read through this whole thread, but I didn't see a definate answer.

No, it won't. It is 2 inches too short and the flange angle is on the opposite side. I ended up just cutting mine so I can have a high flow cat installed.

Just wanted to say that I just ordered the MR 2g AWD downpipe from SBR today. It should be here within a week or two, so I'll make sure to get some nice pics of it and maybe do a short write-up about installation. I was reading some old posts about the original MR downpipe and the fitment problems with it and it kinda scared me until I looked at the dates of the threads and they were from '05. *sigh of relief* So we'll see how things go.

My MR downpipe just arrived. I'll take the gasket in to work at Checker tomorrow and see if I can match it up with any Fel-pro gaskets that we have.

Just for my clarification though, a few questions:

1. The MR downpipe should bolt right up to the stock cat-back, correct?
2. The O2 sensor flange bolt holes look like they're a bit twisted in relation to the line of the downpipe, if that's clear enough. If the DP is pointing at 6 o'clock, the bolt holes on the flange look like they're at 4 and 10. Does this sound correct? I'm just worried the flange wasn't placed on the downpipe correctly before it was welded. I'm going to check for alignment tomorrow after work, but if anyone can answer, I'd appreciate it. :)

Mine just showed up about 15 minutes ago...

All i can say is :rocks: :thumb: . It will be going on this week and I will report back any issues if I come across some. My flange is exactly like you described yours MRBoxx.

My flange is exactly like you described yours MRBoxx.

Good to know. :thumb: It appears yours necks down at the O2 sensor flange. Maybe that's just a 1g design thing, but mine doesn't neck down at all.

Overall, I'm impressed with the size of it. I knew 3" exhausts were pretty thick, but wow. Mirror-like shine, thick flanges, perfect welds. I can't wait to put it on. :thumb:

hey i just got mine in the mail today. Did yours come with the gaskets and the bolts ?

because mine didn't. :notgood:

I went to work today and tried matching up the gaskets to any easily accessible gaskets that we had. The closest one I could match up to was a Fel-Pro #60831 (NEA part number EX-71), however, the gasket was about .2" smaller in diameter than the smaller of the two gaskets I received. The bolt holes align well, but they're about .1" smaller in diameter and they're not slotted, so they'd have to line up with the O2 sensor housing bolt holes fairly well. If the 1g downpipe necks down more than the 2g pipe, it may work better. For clarification, the O2 housing-downpipe gasket I recieved was roughly 2.8" inside diameter and the downpipe-to-cat-back gasket was roughly 3.1x". The Fel-Pro gasket I mentioned is roughly 2.6" inside diameter.

Tomorrow after work, I'm going to take my gaskets to the depot store a few miles away and try to check out their gasket section, which I'm sure is bigger. I'll report the results if I find a better match.

I got two gaskets, two bolts, and two nuts, but only one sticker :(. Ohh well, I am not much for putting stickers on my car anyways. Usually I put the on magnetic sheets and sometimes use them to dress up the car at events.

I did a test fit this morning on my 1G AWD and it bolted right into place. Both ends lined up perfect and no clearance issues at all. I am very happy with this down pipe.

I dont really care if this downpipe fits the STock exhaust or not since i will be running open downpipe for now anyways LOL .. until i can afford a after market Catback..

Im really impressed with the Quality of this downpipe!..

mirror like sshine.. perfect welds. 3 inch all the way! Best bang for the buck!

I just got my 3" downpipe and 3" catback monday, both looked like they were great quality. I'll be putting the exhaust on this weekend and will post some pics of the install as well. Hopefully this thing sounds and performs as good as it looks! :thumb:

p.s. just for your info, the tip is the flamed tip like in the picture on MRs site

those bastards!! i only got the actual DP.. my stock bolts are so rusted :(

plus i wont be able to put those stickers on my car no more

Hey Laraab...Where did you get the exhaust from...If its an ebay store than maybe thats why...

Also, I got my exhaust gasket for my Downpipe from extremepsi...It was pretty thick, It actually sticks out a little so I can show you later if you want

Here they are, the pics of the Megan downpipe and catback. I didnt' even realize the downpipe I got was a cat delete, which I was pretty happy with because I was going to put in a test pipe anyway. The exhaust sounds awesome, very low toned and has a nice gargle to it. I haven't had a chance to hear it at high rpms because i'm still breaking in my damn clutch!

That looks great! I think I'm going to save up this winter and buy the cat-back, then put it all on in the spring when it gets nice out. I'd rather do the whole exhaust at once than put the DP on now and have to get under the car again to put the cat-back on four months later.

nice looking exhaust system if i do say so myself :thumb: , i made mine myself it accually exits the drivers side of the car and rests on the filler hose for the gas tank :shhh: :nono: and nice to see you took the car to the track kraka 13.5 not bad, let me come show you how to launch that beast :sneaky: , fix the leaks eliminate the knock problem and youve got a 12 second ride ;) , im breaking axles left and right nowadays. 3 bolt ftl :notgood:

Dude...Went to the track like 3 months ago on the 14b....Im on a full evoIII setup now with a chipped eprom and 2g mas lined up next....Rewire is also going on with my battery relocation, so I plan on going back even with this STUPID STOCK CLUTCH and seeing if I can break 12's even with these lame launches.....Studderbox + stock clutch = ROFL
