This was a request by a guy on craigs list, I had to take an old belt sander and not only extend it out for a longer belt by 2 1/8th inch while tracking true, but also needed to put an adjustable angle sanding table on (the gap may look larger but rhere's a buffer behind the belt that will lt thebelt sand the table to within the smallest amount of space to allow fine work )
The base of the setup is a little odd looking but the request was that it was able to hold a 3 x 5" kitchen sponge that the sanding belt would lightly rub on so that it can stay cooled and cleaned off with the water and sponge (the bottom "tray" is water tight"
The unit bolts to a desk and i removed the original drive and made an arbor to run a universal 1/2 center diameter and 2" belt drive diameter pulley. It's driven by a 1750 RPM multi directional motor and controller on a 1:1 ratio, and there's a 13.2:1 reduction in the drive system built into the sander so the drive ratio may or may not need changed since the motor has limited speed and i think the 13.2 reduction is gona make it a little too slow but the way I've set it uyp he can easily change the pulley, mount the motor back a little tighter or set the middle idler pulley (Not shown) to tension up things.
HE says it's going to be for jewel shaping and sanding or polishing which i know NOTHING about, but i got tomake something that i'm hoping the guys on his forum will likeas i've built it up much nicer than the opnes in links that i got for ideas..
