I bought a new set of JE pistons off ebay but the box was missing one piston pin. I looked up a replacement pin from JE and there are some big differences in the weight and length. I think I may have an older style piston from JE. My question is can I use 4 new pins from JE in my current pistons or do I need to find the ones I have.

I am assuming the caliper used and scale may be a bit off but the tools used were from a reputable machine shop and I don't think if they were the same these measurements could be that far off.

The outer diameter is the same. JE 85.5mm pistons going into Eagle H-beam rods.

The pins that came with the pistons:
Length 2.5"
Weight: 105.7g
Wall Thickness: 0.168"

JE's current Pins offered (in 85.mm pistons):
Length: 2.250"
Weight: 91g
Wall Thickness: 0.150"

Will the shorter length work effectively if I get 4 "new style" JE piston pins?

There are many places you can buy a set of 2.500" piston pins.

No you need to have the correct length wrist pin.

.250 difference in length is huge.

The clip grooves will not be in the proper location, allowing the wrist pin to walk back n forth and beat on the clip.

So as long as they're all the same weight and length the wall thickness shouldn't be a problem?

Wall thickness will matter.

Same length + same wall thickness = same weight (appox)

Same length + different wall thickness = weights all over the place.

what is the part number ???? and are they off the shelf JE or Someones custom ???

I may have some.

Call JE and get the right pins. the wrist pins MUST be the correct size on the length and Outside diameter. As long as those are correct and matched to your rods and pistons the wall thickness isnt as much important BUT like was said above thicker wall pins will be able to handle more power and need to be matched across all 4 pistons. Ideal to have each piston/rod/pin/and rings fully assembled weigh within a few grams of each other. the closer the better.

They all make them of many different materials. old style or standard pins are a 5000 series alloy. New ones are 9310, a much more fatiuge resistant material.

It probably doesn't matter but I'd want the same pins all around.

The Weisco ones I'm looking at are 2.5" length and the same OD (correct length for the pistons). Does the piston pin weight matter as long as they are all the same?

My plan is to not use the ones supplied and get 4 new Weisco pistons pins the correct length and OD.

The current JE piston pins are only offered in 0.150" wall thickness. I'm well aware different wall thickness will be different weights and I'm aware I need all the pins to be the same weight.
