Street Build ITFLYS - 1Gina2G

ITFLYS - 95GSX 2.0L 6-Bolt Crank with 2G pistons, 1G TopEnd, with 2Gb-CamSensor and a Kiggly-CrankSensor - TD05H-Bastard 20G - E85 w 1000cc inj. ~25psi. Street driven track day car.

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

1. Switch to 100% E85 - stop mixing and deal with E85 cold start issues.
2. Change oil - 15w50 - Fixed low oil pressure when hot
3. Replace coolant with water - Step one drain coolant. replace with water.

There is bound to be more coolant in the system than what I drained from the radiator - so for the first go on the street its going to be a weak mix.
4. Hose clamps - find a better quality design
5. Swap in a stronger WGA spring - Was 1.0 BAR, now 1.5 BAR

6. IC and cold intake ducting (maybe a new IC? newer tech)
7. Blue loctite on the cover bolts that move
8. Swap alternator - Fixed the over voltage issue

More service to do:
9. Refurbish rear brake calipers
10. Trim useless part off the left inside fender skirt

11. remove and inspect battery - I see leakage
12. Remove and re-pack driver side front axel - grease puked out
13. Thread repair on valve cover - lost a bolt
14. Replace radiator hoses and clamps
15. Replace large 21mm lug nuts with longer 17mm nuts.

The new clamps and hoses are in place, or I should say, one of the new hoses is in place. The upper gates hose is a great fit - the lower hose is more of a puzzle.

I ordered a 2G upper hose, and a 94 1G lower hose. Unfortunately the lower hose is a bout 1” short. I dunno if that is because I picked a bad match, or if the gates hose is cut short, but I will try the 2G lower part number next.

The clamps are beefy - had to clock them in a convenient spot, and before I put the hood prop down I was concerned for clearance at the top of the radiator, but it turns out there is good room there after all.

Assuming 19psi was at 3000 rpm, that is still an OK amount of pressure.
Oh are you thinking that you might only be getting 19 psi and low 20's just typical, driving along at 3,000 rpm?
I figured it would be higher typically, and only dropping to 19 when you throw the car around a corner at race speeds due to slosh.
There's a Subie guy who did a lot of logging on track with the logs graphing real time on the video screen. They are so interesting to watch. Anyway he was concerned about oil slosh in the corners dropping his oil pressure. Let me see if I can find one of the earlier ones --
Yeah this is the first one. The fun driving part starts at about 7:20, but if you have time, most of the 7 minutes before that is really well done. Here's a link to start at 7:15.

It definitely could have been 19 in a corner, and I wish it was logged so we could see if it was correlated with other factors.

11. remove and inspect battery - I see leakage
Oh my - what a mess a little battery acid can make. I guess the over voltage from the alternator made the battery mad. Probably need to have the battery checked too.

I ended up removing the battery, and tray cleaning things - spraying down the whole battery area on the fire wall, fuel filter, wiring harness etc with a spray bottle with water and soap, and then windex. The fuel filter paint wiped off - and the black anodizing on the banjo end of my fancy fuel line was gone - bare aluminum. I see corrosion on a my 50 amp breaker for the fuel pump power line, and on my fuel pressure sensor. Aw crap.

Good thing I dug into it, cause I found EGR and EVAP canister vacuum hoses broken and cracked through. These were not leaking before, but boy did they degrade. I'll have to boost leak check it for sure.

May want to look into floating nuts as they lock better and alloy is a no go if racing. They dont generally suggest them. Not sure if these are steel or aluminum.

Bout time you got extended studs also i think 🤘

Boost leak test is good - just my typical issues with the Greddy BOV. Lower port bleeds air somewhere. I might need to consider a more modern BOV if it turns out this is the thing that prevents making more than 23psi boost.

Heh - yeah I figured I'd look at the axle last. I want to drive with the latest changes first. I think - 13 and then I need to go burn the tank down.

Bad driving...LOL

I was going to wait to post this until I had worked out all the data overlay - but this is a fair example of what RaceRender can do combining two data files and a mp4.

Context: It's the end of the 2nd day, Last session. Kept it on track the whole time. With new found confidence, I get the bright idea to try and chase down a Jedi Master. I had them hold me on pit lane and time my outlap to join John at turn 2. I didn't know it, but he was on a flying lap - and - well, I did this:

Hey look what I found. That's you on the left and Mr Jedi on the right! Same thing pretty close, both a yaz overcooked it in a right hander and went off the outside into the gravel. From my archives.

Those gauges do look real nice on the screen.

There is only one track in the US with a Dunlop bridge, and that is Mueller sacred ground. When is this shot from?

Yeah the Dunlop bridge!
I don't know when it was shot but the file I have on my computer has a Date Modified of 9-24-2005.
I rediscovered this on my computer when I was looking for video files that would play on my ancient WinXP laptop.
These old .wmv files were about it.
I've never uploaded a .wmv to YouTube so I gave it a shot. Here it is. The file is 640 x 480 and that's how it is in YouTube so if it comes up in 144 or some such thing, set it to 480p. I think the name "seca lap 1 take 2" is the name he put on it.
seca lap 1 take 2

I have a few more of these. "Viper eater" and a couple more.

Oh man I wanted to watch the whole thing!!! I need to share that with John. 2005!!!

THAT is from the same time I was working with John. That is Kent Jordan behind the wheel, and John on the Radio. I helped build that car. John said to quote him "It's not how you start, Its how you finish!" I believe Kent went on to win that race. Do you have the whole video?

Burning Gas - This is the lean global fuel result today, I did not change it since the track event:
-43.8 Global Fuel ( 70.8 WGSDuty = 20psi )
Screenshot 2025-01-18 at 2.11.04 PM.png

The base fuel pressure without the vac line on the regulator was at 43 where I left it, so It's time to change the global fuel value.

-41.0 Global Fuel ( 0% WGSDuty = 14psi )
Screenshot 2025-01-18 at 4.06.43 PM.png

-40.2 Global Fuel - ( 0% WGSDuty = 14psi )
Screenshot 2025-01-18 at 4.04.42 PM.png

1.5 Bar WG spring is working well. I wonder if it will go more max boost now?

It's sure tracking well!

Ahh interesting! Well, I'm not sure what exactly I have. But I can upload them all to YouTube like this one and I guess you'll know more about them than I do!
Maybe then I'll put better info in the description field or in the title.
I'll buzz back when I get them uploaded but they'll be on that same dash-four channel.

awesome

If you still have some trace of e85 in your tank and you're slowly working it out you will be chasing the global % until it is all gone. If you ever do go full e85 via 'pump' (idk what you have access to), I have had to make a global change of up to 5% between actual e85 and the winter blend of e70. I guess if your fuel isn't stable your global % won't be stable.

That aside I don't see any issue of a stiffer wg spring and/or boost control. Give it full beans.

Oh, Thread repair:
13. Thread repair on valve cover - lost a bolt
stripped

drilled, and beveled

tapped and insert installed with red loctite
