I used an air compressor with a sprayer nozzle on it to clean mine out. Didn't have to worry about scratching anything and really blew all the leaf parts and tree seeds out of there in a hurry.

This is the way I fixed a leaky sunroof (twice). This is also how Satan recommended it to be done.

Well..... It still leaked a little when it rained last night. I was looking closer and it looks like water could be coming from under the panels on the underside of the hatch. So, I guess I'll have to take those off and see what I can come up with. I don't know where water would be getting under these panels... who knows... This is really frustrating...!!!

same with me, i took the panels off, but that didn't help, cant see anything under there. i think its leaking around the back glass

I too kthe panels off and I can't really see anything, like FourG63 97 GST said. My two guesses are that its leaking from either the glass seal or around the spoiler. I am going to take the spoiler off this weekend and put a small amount of silicon around the bolt holes to seal it all up. How much do you guys think it will cost to get the seals replaced around the rear glass? Has anyone had this done before. Thanks for evryone's help.

I'd say about $30-$50 labor, plus price of the gasket. Permatex has a "runny" silicone seal for windshields, but you have to get it bone-dry first. A bit of a challenge there, from what I hear on the Weather Channel.

Trying to find this leak has been one of the hardest things to fix on the car. I layed in the hatch area and got someone to spray water all around the hatch area. I found no water coming in around the glass or any piece of the hatch (which is odd since I've seen water come through the panels before.) What I did find was a small hole that looks like it could have been used to hold the bumper and exterior panels together. I saw some water coming in through this hole.

It seems like water was coming in through this hole and maybe through the taillights. I put some silicon in the holes and I am going to take the taillights off and see what I can do with them. Thanks for the help.

This morning it rained again and this allowed me to check to see where water was coming from. I have found out where its leaking on the hatch. It's coming in from around the arm to the rear windshield washer. So, now I need to look into fixing that.

There still is a small amount of water coming in somewhere around the sides of the car behind the fender wells. Its in the places shown in the pictures above. I am guessing its probably coming in around the taillights, I hope. Once I can isolate the leak I'll be able to try to fix it, but right now I have no idea where these leaks on the rear sides of the hatch are coming from.

I appreciate everyone's help and advice so far. I hope I can get this fixed with everyone's help and suggestions. Thanks again.

Drove through a rain storm to get to an AutoX . . . when I got there and was unloading everything, I discovered a decent amount of water underneath my spare tire!!!

After a bit of investigation afterwords, it seems that the water might be coming through some type of vent that is in the right (passenger) rear wheel well. Only thing I can think this vent is for is to equalize cabin pressure when closing the doors w/ windows rolled up.

So anyways- any of you guys come across this or have any other ideas? Seems to only happen after driving through a rainstorm (don't notice it after washing her . . .)

Much thanks to all who respond :D

I would recomend checking the drain tubes for the liftgate/hatch. The ones mounted to the body, outside of the weatherstrip. They may get clogged. Also, remove the access panels for the rear tail lenses and see if there's any standing water in the rear tail lenses, the seals for the lenses may be bad. Lastly, is there any water under the carpet up front? Need to know if it's just the rear or any other point too.

Checked the drain tubes and they seem to be fine, I'll take a look @ the tail light housings as soon as the weather decides to quit raining. I'll keep everyone updated :)

Short term fix is to remove the plug in the bottom of the spare tire well. This is just to keep condensation, mildew and stench from building up until you fix the source of the leak. With the hatch area.... I was thinking of a way to check them. There's the easy way of putting a garden hose at the top of the roof, in the center, and let the water slowly poor down in to the drainage trough. This can be done with the hatch open so long as you don't get carried away with the hose pressure. That was the first thing that came to mind. That will test the drains and tail lense draining capabilities. That is of course only testing the car in a perfectly flat condition which you and I both know we can't always park perfectly flat.

The next thing to do would be to elevate one side or both at the same time and force all the water to use one drain tube only or more of the drain tubes and less the lense. This would be similar to parking with the nose lower than the rear. Try that as well.

That's for your "flow-through" ventilation (as GM called it when they came out with it in '77. They even had vents in the trunk lid, and a damned ventilation fan you couln't turn the hell off.) so you can open the vent ducts and have flow with the windows and roof closed.

Someone else just went about three-quarters nuts chasing this down, theirs turned out to be where the body's punched for the side trim to snap on. Pull the inner trim, get it dry and silicone seal it.

Looky, with pics:

Rained last night, so took another look this morning in my hatch and believe I found the problem. The rubber grommet that seals the rear passenger side drain tube for the moon roof was not properly installed. It looks as though about 1/4 of the upper lip was pushed down a bit too far during installation.

I'll post pix of it tonight.

I just hope it'll still make a good seal since it's kind of warped. Don't like the idea of giving satan any more $$$ ;)

I'll let you all know how it goes- and THANKS for all of the replys! They've been great.

If that's the source, check the hardware store for glues and sealants for use in wet conditions. There's lots of new products out there that'll let you put them on wet, and will last 20 years.

Here's a pic of the gromet I was talking about. Sorry it's kind of blurry, my hands were black with road dust and a bunch of other crap, so I just took a quick snap after I cleaned the gromet a bit.

I'll let you guys know if it's been fixed. :D

Rained yesterday and my trunk is still nice and dry :D, so HOPEFULLY that'll be the fix for me. If not, guess I'll keep looking around and try some of the other suggestions that've been posted on here . . .

Thx for all of the help.

:dsm: well i had a bad idle problem, my cars idle went to about 4K, so obviously something major was wrong. It wasnt a sensor, it was a vacuum problem, a nice crack in my intake manifold. So i got to replace that, but its not the end of it, it cause my clutch to engage all the time, so i replaced that, but went high performance, and a new oxygen sensor was put in too. not fun at all

im gonna bring this thread back to life here. i missed class today because i was not walking in looking like i pissed my pants. i back down the driveway, and after any time it rains, i get soaked. i can only see the drain plugs up front. i can not see the rear ones. do i need to remove my sun roof to get to them? i will if need be, im tired of getting soaked. if i back up my driveway im fine, but i dont always know when its gonna rain.

thanks,
chris

I've had my eclipse now for about 3 months, but this past week was the first time I had to drive the car in the rain (I always just drove my Talon, but I sold it a few weeks back).

Anyways, when I got off work, I noticed that I was getting a small leak (a little water on the inside of the quarter panel and on the plastic insert over the rear speaker) from the drivers side quarter panel. The only way I could figure out how to fix it is by getting some RTV and just filling the big ass gap right above the door (I don't know why they designed it liked that 1g was much better).

I know that the drivers side door had been broken out before (I think I have it adjusted properly now). I also found some little piece's of glass that have the black coating on them, so I am almost positive that the quarter panel was borken out as well and it just wasen't sealed properly.

Anyone have any thought's other than my RTV idea? I am not really sure it will work anyways. I took the interior panels off in the back near the quarter panel, but I didn't really see much I could do from that side. I don't want to take the stripping off the quarter panel. I think it has to be cut off.

Thanks.

well it started like this: I was cleaning out my recently purchased '95 esi and I happened to pull out the spare tire and the spare tire well had about a half gallon of water sitting in it. Then just today I was figuring out how to remove the bottom of the rear seat for when I run my amp cables and there was water under the seat too. Basically what I would like to know is if anyone else has had a leak like this and where should I look and how do I fix it? please give me any help you can:thumb: (I'd like to fix this problem before I put my subs in and fry the system because the water shorted it outOMG )

Thanks for any help:thumb: :thumb:
