Intercooler Core Size? [Merged 5-7]

If the only mods you have are a 3" DP, then the stock or upgraded SMIC would be fine for you, as you shouldn't be running any higher than much over stock now anyways.

And don't you know? W/ exhausts, its best to start in the back and work your way forward. That is the only way you will notice any real gains. Read up guy.

Ok i am planning on purchasing a new fmic. I still have the stock t25 turbo. I am just planning ahead and would like to get that out of the way as i am installing a 97 bumper and headlights i figured i would do this at the same time. My question here is, what would be a good size core to go with for planning on eventually going with a evo3 16g turbo? I would like one that would fill up the space in the bumper as well. What size piping would i need? Would it bolt up to my stock setup? I know some cutting and modification would be required, but i just mean the piping size. If i get bigger piping how would that attach to my setup? I think i am going to go with one of the ebay front mounts as i have read really good things about them, also cant complain about the pricing. i am looking to buy one today, so any information about a good size and piping size would be very helpfull.

I appologize about not having my profile filled out. I had a problem with my password for my account so had to make this one to be able to post.

Thanks. ----Ryan.

This is one of the intercoolers i am thinking of getting. Do you think the 1g bov would bolt onto the flange? Thats what i have now and i don't feel like getting a recirc kit for the greddy.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I really need to know some info before i place my order. I just need to make sure if i purchasea fmic with 2.5 or 2.75" or even 3" piping if it will connect right up to my stock turbo or not? Or if i would need to get an adapter or anything. Also would the one i listed be able to be on and still keep my fog lights hooked up?

I don't reccomend any cheap ebay frount mounts been nothing but trouble get something reputable thats been proven, or you could have fun with pinhole leaks and blown couplers.

Either 2.25 or 2.5. Even a nice supra sidemount would work for an E16G. Most likely you will need an adapter. I'm not sure the size of the t25 so I can't say just measure it and use a coupler adapter for whatever sizes you need. Extremepsi.com has a lot of them in different sizes. Keeping your fog lights depends on which exact kit and piping you go with.

That intercooler kit doesn't look right. Get the other ebay intercooler that everyone has been getting. The piping on this one doesn't fit that intercooler. The other one had 90deg angle outlet/inlet not inline.

Also the UICP is flanged for a 1g dsm, at least mine was.

Woah. OMG

Have you read the HUGE thread about ebay fmic from SSAC/XS? There's a guy running 400whp on that fmic.

The FMIC that you want is this one -

There are none on ebay right now, because SSAC is out of stock. If you do a search for ebay FMIC, you'll find the thread. Also, you can get it for $300 shipped instead of the $650 price tag on the website.

If you want something that is not ebay - I recommend this one.

Yeah that fmic is the one i have been wanting but have not been able to find it. I had read somewhere on here that they have raised the price way up. Is that true? If anyone knows, when will they be available again? I really wanted to purchase one very soon as i am installing my new bumper and headlights, figured i would o it all in one.
Also the one i listed, is that no good? What does not look good with it?

The huge thread on ebay FMIC should answer all your questions.

EDIT: Never mind - just saw ^^^ is banned.

Im trying to figure out what size intercooler i should run thatll have a good flow rate but at the same time fill up the bumper. Oh yea i got the 2gb bumper as well.
thanks for all the help

Depends on how much boost you are running. Intercoolers are kind of like exhausts in the effect that you must maintain efficiency without unecessary pressure loss/drop. I'm actually downgrading my intercooler when I get the chance.

For 8-12psi I'd say : 6"x20"x2"

12-20psi: 9"x24"x2.5"

20-30psi: 12"x24"x3-3.5"

If too much pressure drops you're going to lose 2-3psi through the charge peipe and intercooler alone. But if it's efficient enough, you could only lose 1psi or less..

Bigger isn't better and size does matter, in this case.
It's all about efficiency for effective cooling. I cannot stress that enough.

Don't forget the piping. Your best bet would be about 2.25" piping, so check the inlet and outlet sizes on the intercooler to avoid spending extra cash on reducers.

Oh good point. Thanks for adding that also. Overlooked the piping size. Yes, 2.25 would be ideal for only 8psi. I would like to say 2.5" if you plan to upgrade or turn the boost up.

thanks for all the help guys so 6x20x2.5 is what ill go with. thanks again for all the help i cant wait to start ordering the parts but that wont be till this summer ill let ya know how it goes and im sure ill be asking more questions.

yea ill eventually run more boost, but right now im only wanting to run 5-8 at the most and see how my motor handles it. After i turbo this is when ill start building a better motor.

I think his point was... if you'll be upgrading later, it makes sense to get an intercooler that will fit your final goals, not your interim goals.

i am only going to be running 12 psi now but want to run more in future wht is a good intercooler that wont killmy wallet. any recomended brands? size? i have a 95 and would like for it to fill the whole grill.

I searched and couldn't find any info on this.

I am looking at a few ebay intercooler cores currently and I plan to purchase one soon. I would go with the SSAC kit, however I've heard that everyone is sold out right now and that the price will be going up. I have no problem with the fact that I'll have to piece together the piping if I just buy a core. Basically I'm just looking for a fairly cost-effective setup.

The question I have is; what size core is the largest that will fit in a 2Gb Talon bumper? Anybody know (or willing to measure) the dimensions on the SSAC core, assuming it fits? Of all the cores I've seen from Greddy, Apexi, and others, -everything is around 24" long. I would like to use something a little longer if it will fit, since the height is going to have to be shorter unless I convert to an eclipse bumper.

Opinions?
