people would argue that the FMIC isnt even worth taking off in the first place.

I was just about to say that.

No nothing on there is worth it.

I agree. The money spent on a starion and the PITA to set it up, a supra sidemount would be better spent in my opinion.

Perhaps the BOV if they even have one

is it possible are there parts already made or will i have to put it together my self with pipes and clamps and stuff ....i was trying to figure out where the piping would go and i cant please help im about to buy it if i can actualy get the thing in there

thanks again

You can get some parts from RRE, such as couplings, bov mount and tb mount. You will have to make your own piping or have someone make it such as a muffler shop. You want to run the piping right next to the radiator, basically where the overflow tank is, which you will have to mount elsewhere, mine is now right next to the battery.

Does anyone know how hard this would be to do, would i need alll new piping, could i get flex pipe, or what would i have to do to get this on my 2g talon, thanks

I have a Starion, and was going to do that mod, when just about EVERY person I spoke with said it was a complete waste of time and money. Just buy a good front mount and do it right the first time, you won't regret it. :thumb:

it would be pointless because your stock side mount flows better than the starion front mount

You might look into doing the supra smic if you are looking to save money. You can pick one up for around 125.00 and from what I understand they are good for up to 450 horsepower. I think you have to do a little creativive piping but still much cheaper than fmic. My buddy has one in his car, he has stroker motor with a 20g and he runs 12.20's.

I have an opportunity to pick up a Starion FMIC for less than $50, and I'm wondering if I will be completely wasting my money. Like you all, I've heard people badmouth these intercoolers, but many of the people who belittle them have never used them directly.

There are a few guys on Talk in the 11s with the Starion fmic, so there has to be some advantage over stock (one dude is on a b16g and the starion, running 11s). I understand what all is involved in creating the piping and modifying the endtanks. My current plan is to try and have the endtanks modified for 2.5" piping so if/when I upgrade the fmic I can reuse the piping. Anyone know if sticking 2.5" inlet/outlets on the Starion is possible?

For those of you who have or have had the starion FMIC, how much did your setup cost after acquiring the core? What kind of shop can do the modifying of the endtanks? And finally, what kind of rating would you give the intercooler :thumb:?

Thanks for the help ;)

EDIT>> My current goal for the car is 12s...planning on running some sort of 16g within the next year or so...

don't have personal experience with the starion intercooler, but any sort of FMIC is better than the stock 2g sidemount.

i'd enlarge the endtanks [ or have ones welded on ] and make some custom fab IC pipes. i'd say it shouldn't cost you more than 200 bucks total to do this. good luck and paint is black cause if i remember the starion intercooler doesn't look too attractive in the front bumper

I used a Starion FMIC for a little while. Here's my experience.

I had it modified with a 2.25 inch inlet and a 2.25 inch outlet. the inlet was on the passenger side and the outlet was half of a U bend so it faced the passenger side as well. The outlet piping ran across teh top and mated up with the stock location. The end tanks were mirror polished already so it looked pretty good. I noticed a little less throttle response with it then stock but it seemed to cool the air a little better. The outlet end take would be nice and cold after some fun driving.

Overall the IC is nice if you can get it cheap and the modifications and pipes don't cost you much. It does flow better than stock and will cool better since there is more surface area. The actual tubes aren't any bigger but they are longer. I ended up selling it to a friend though because i picked up a Greddy type 24R with pipes for $500. I love my Greddy and it fills the bumper up a lot more.

i'm running a starion intercooler w/ 2in inlet and 2.5 inch outlet on a 14b is my turbo outflowing my intercooler?? i would have to say its better than the SMIC but could be just cuz of the 2.5 upper ic piping. just wondering if anyone knew the flow of the starion. thanks
Ryan

I have an 88 Starion, and from all the research I have done, the factory I.C. is basically a piece of crap, barely better than the sidemount you have. Just buy an upgraded core, and do it right the first time. :thumb:

Hey man I'm in the same position that you are. I'm running a Starion front mount and like you I would have to say that its better than stock, however, I do plan on getting a better core in the future. Though there are some that break 12's with stock IC and piping. hehe...... DSM=Self-Contradictive :thumb:

:talon:

Funny thing is I have a buddy that runs 12.01 in his galant VR4 with a modded Starion front mount. The main problem is that they heat soak A LOT easier than a good upgraded core.

I used to own starion/conquests and with te inlet/outlet opened they are said to flow 850CFM. mark

Just talk around the starquest site, nothing tested. Though when you think about it a pipe could flow 850 CFM but there would be no cooling effect so it could have flowed 850 but been a poor IC. I am not hip to the action of IC's but flow can't be the end all. Cooling needs to take place also! As a former conquest owner I passed on a quest IC.
I went with a simple dejon street FMIC. Good for me! mark
