I'm putting a big 16g turbo along with the intercooler. I saw an intercooler on ebay that is 18"x7"x2.5" (too small?), whats the tallest intercooler that i can fit in there with minor cutting but no moving of radiator fans? Whats are the dimmensions of the greddy big FMIC?

Honestly you have the perfect front end on your car to accomodate just about any intercooler. The only thing you have to be careful of is cutting the lower lip on the mouth of the bumper. You may need to apoxy a brace on the back side of it so it does not sag. Even if it does the sagging is minor. Hands down the stock B series 2G bumper is the best looking with a FMIC.

It most certainly is! I cut the little lip thingy on the top portion (its like 1 inch of pastic and goes along the opening of the "mouth" and and fiberglassed the pasrts i cut off around to make it look stock :thumb: ) I also took out my bumper support stuff and fit a 24x12x3 intercooler! You can go bigge if you want...Right now I have a t3/t4 50 trim but plan on bigger turbo in the future.

How about the apexi FMIC? does that require alot of cutting? Cause that is what i am considering getting when i get my 16g and DNP manifold. Does that make sense?

I just got an intercooler and I was wondering what the biggest turbo I can use with it is, the core dimensions are 22.5in x 6.5in x 3in . I want to make 400whp with all supporting mods is it possible with this intercooler on pump gas (93-94oct) to do so. I was thinkin Hahn 20g or PTE 50 trim

Where did you buy the intercooler? Whatever company it came from can answer the question of how much your IC flows (CFM, lb/min). That is the first thing you want to know. Then you need to find a turbo that fits in the power profile that you are looking for and make sure it flows less than the IC you have.

On a side note, I am running a Hahn 20G and like it a lot. You will be able to get 400whp out of it.

I got the intercooler as a custom kit from so guy. Its a drag gen 3 intercooler. Outa those honda turbo kits

What is the dimensions of the Greddy FMIC? (the one that goes on with minor cutting)

I ended up going with the Greddy 24V FMIC. I think the dimensions on it are 24"x10"x3".
The smaller one i think is like 18"x9"x3", not really sure. I love the Greddy 24V, there was not a lot of cutting to be done with that one either, just had to cut a hole in the bumper reenforecement for the upper pipe and do a 1" cut out where it touched the intercooler, and thats it. very easy to install.

The Greddy 24 will fit perfect, but you will have to spend some time and trim the bumper here and there..

DV/DT fab

Check this out... I just found this while browsing through the forum the other day. I'm seriously considering replacing my current front mount with one... but I'm gonna have to see how the water injection I'm installing goes.

Its really not hard to trim your bumper, but there really isn't a FMIC worth using that you won't need to cut your bumper. I've got a hybrid bar and plate 24x12x3 core with 2.5'' mandrel bent thick piping and I only had to cut the bumper support, a bit around the corners where the piping goes, and maybe an inch off of both sides. I ended up taking off the top part of the opening to allow for more flow, but you don't have to.

Oh, and I still have foglights.

Will fit without removing my fogs?

i fit a 24x12x3 on mine. I dont think you could fit much more than a 12" tall cooler on it, my headlights SIT on top of the core.

Ok guys, so Im getting a intercooler I was just wanting to know what size to get. I have done a search and have read bigger is better but have also found that you can go too big.

Here is my set up
30 over je pistons Eagle Rods Balance shafts removed 3" down pipe 3" gm mass air flow sensor upgraded fuel pump 255 Lph 550 injectors Ported 16g Ported O2 housing 2g ported exhaust manifold act 2600 Fidanza Flywheel 4 bolt Logger.

I was looking at this kit http://www.extremeimports.net/DsmIntercoolers.htm
"1G Small DSM Intercooler Kit: Overall dimensions are: 34" Wide x 4.0" Tall x 3.0" Thick. Core dimensions are 24" Wide x 4.0" Tall x 3.0" Thick. It will hold up to 450hp and 20psi of boost! Convenient mounting brackets have been welded onto the unit for easy connection to your frame."

Its $498

What do you guys think?

Thanks

The big question when selecting an intercooler is flow rate. You can support as much hp as you want with a core, but if its at a low flow rate then that won't help you much. Find a core that will support the flow rate of the 16g (I want to say its 550cfm)and don't look at hp numbers, if flow isn't listed, ask. If that core will support that much airflow then its what you need. On the other hand, if you are getting rid of the 16g you'll need something that will keep up with a different turbo, otherwise you'll just be heatsoaking.

So would I be better off getting a IC off ebay and the piping too?

So are you saying I need an IC that flows 550 cfm will it hurt me if it flows more?

Should I even be getting a FMIC or should I do another mod first?
