I just acquired a 1992 laser rs turbo awd with 23k miles. I also have the complete service records that I will try to summarize the important parts below... I also have some questions about certain things like recalls and things i find odd. I dont have time to post the whole history tonight, probably will around tuesday.

About the timing belt... i think it was done at 12k in 1996 LOL. obvoisly it is due asap. what about everything else? water pump? tensioner? are those necessary too? (Bbelt of course is...)

thanks. Ill post back with more records later.

I'd do the entire belt/wp thing just to be safe anyway..

Also, change the tranny and differential fluid, and it prob wouldn't hurt to flush out and changing out the brake fluid and if standard, the clutch fluid as well.

... good luck with a 19yr old vehicle with that low of mileage - thing's prob not even been broke in ...

Please take care of it. Don't destroy it making a ricer out of it. - DSM

Change EVERYTHING. Those gaskets are probably fried from age.

I'm not exaggerating on the everything part. Oil, trans fluid, coolant, gas, all filters, brake fluid, clutch fluid. Everything.

lucky bastard! I wish i could come across a deal that sweet. good find that things is CLEAN!

stop being cheap and take it into a dealer so they can do the service the right way. That car is not a DD it's a time capsule.

LOL dont be cheap on a DSM... It coulda been an EVO if I wasnt so cheap. also I dont have much faith in shops. I dont like the idea of some **** messing something up or taking shortcuts because its not thier car... and 5000% labor, F that. Im decent enough, I may not be able to rebuild a trans or engine, but I sure as hell can remove and replace. I have been working on all my cars for 7 years now...

back to the maintenence though... heres a timeline:

1996 @ 12k - Timing belt, factory recall replacement
1999 @ 18k - Recall 780, Replace yoke package, recall on driveshaft and/or output shaft seal
2002 @ 21k - All new tires
2004 @ 22k - Turbo line leak, 2 rings plus seals part # MD1176487
2005 @ ? - Battery
2008 @ 23,035 - Clutch slipping, clutch found seized, replaced clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing. ECU shorted and burned out, replaced. Front calipers, all rotors, all pads replaced.
2009 @ 23,063 - Fuel pump failed, contaminated fuel, pump replaced, fuel siphoned and replaced...

Oil changes every 3k or less. or every year whichever came first.

anything seem out of the ordinary?

so to sum this up... I should do:
Timing belt and everything under the timing cover
Every fluid, Tcase, Diff, engine oil, coolant, gas, brake, manual trans oil
Cracking hoses, vacuum lines (most dont seem too bad...)

Gaskets... Really? Which ones usually go first?
Motor mounts/ trans etc. mounts? (they shouldnt be worn from mileage but i guess the rubber can rot)

Anything else?

(he's got the same lace wheels and radio that I have .... if you change out your radio, I'll buy that stock one from you since mine is acting up ...and DSM stock radios are getting hard to come by...)

Now, curious on his motor: Look on the lower "C" pillar and you see the sticker that shows the vehicles info including the month and year manufactured.

Also, at the bottom of this sticker on the left hand side is the "MDH" - month, day and hour, the vehicle was driven out of the Normal, IL factory. ( Be curious on really how hold this vehicle is...)

If you're an early 1992 before April .. it will have the 6bolt .. any afterwards, it'd be the 7bolt. This will be your guideline on what belt kit to buy.

Also, if the tires, esp the sidewalls looks like they have tons of cracks on them, best for new tires since the old tires have plenty of sun rot on them...

Good luck as always ... GREAT FIND! - DSM

set me back 4k. I thought it was fair since it ###### gonna cost me about 1k in parts to get it in 100% almost new order. kbb is around 5k and some change in good condition.

So where do i get all this stuff from?
-Timing belt and all accessories? (I imagine theres no plymouth dealer to stop by... any all inclusive kits that include everything? how about the crank pulley? how much is it and at 23k should I be thinking about it?)
-Fluids, I guess autozone has me covered, mobile 1 10w30 synthetic, brake fluid?, manual trans fluid penzoil synchromesh? diff? rear end redline shockproof, coolant flush, gas- it runs now, and its less than a quarter tank, shell can fix that...
-Filters: oil (duh) fuel (should I?) Air, maybe unless its brandnew clean.
-vacuum lines, theres a kit from a vendor on here... are they all cut to length or is it cut your own and hope you have enough hose?
-Intake hoses: just go metal/aluminum with silicone elbows? those should be leak proof for a while...
-Gaskets... Which ones? i dont think i wanna replace every gasket on the engine just yet... maybe in 100k.
