I have a 92 laser rs awd 5 speed that has about 300 hp and it need a clutch. The 2nd and 3rd gears are double syncroed. So what clutch should i get. i don't want oem so performance is what im going for. I want something that will give me a very smooth ride for the 300hp the laser has. The car is a daily driven car so i want something that will last for ever you can say. I don't want some pos clutch. I don't want to spend a lot of money but at the same time i want a very good clutch. I am not sure how the performance clutches work but i am going to build the car so i want a very good one that people put in there built DSM if that helps. I will not beat on the car i will take care of the car its my baby but if i ever take it to the track i want the clutch to be very good for the track. I was told to get a act 2600 or 2900 clutch but i don't know if there is anything way better. I saw act 2600 or act 2900 on ebay for less then $430 but i hear people in the DSM world say don't but DSM parts off ebay but those clutches i seen are new so im not sure. i will need the kit with flywheel and everything else needed. I guess you can say go big or go home but again i don't want a pos clutch that wont last or wont be good in the end if i every build the car. So what do you think i should and how much would it cost me? where do you recommend me to purchase it and if you can leave me a link that would help a lot? Plus could you leave your email incase i have questions with something you said. Thanks

ACT 2600. Make sure to resurface your flywheel or get a lightened one. Make sure your slave and master cylinders are in good working order too. thedsmgraveyard.com has them

i used a act hd pp with 6 puck sprung disk with a fidanza fly wheel it holds up good and i have about 450 hp mine has under 1200 miles on it i switched to a twin disk b/c i plan on going to about 550 hp
pm me if you still need a clutch i am getting rid of mine for a good price

This is a good question. For your power output you will need something for the street and it needs to be able to be driven in traffic without killing your thigh. As the saying goes you get what you pay for, so eBay clutches are just like most turbos from china only good for a little while. This is not a set of wires where you can change them if they don't work as expected. Even if you do the work its a long process and you don't want to do it next summer because it wore out prematurely. The ACT clutches are tested and are the new go to part, but I have heard mixed reviews and most saw there is a difference I'm the pedal feel and it's not a good difference. For my talon I have a Centreforce dual friction clutch which is rated for 400 to 450 horse power. I dynoed the car this year after replacing my burnt 16g with a new 20g (not eBay turbo) and went from 320 the 370 whp. Magnus and I were really happy to see that the car held the power and pedal feel was still the same. Did I mention that its a 11 year old clutch or older. Now for the fly wheel, if your going to do the job this is the time when you upgrade your flywheel. I have a aluminum lightened fly wheel and the difference is substantial in a good way. As soon as you feel the difference in the free feeling revs it will make you smile. The car will build rpms faster and if you have cams like myself when they kick in it almost feels like nitrous (small shot). Sme times you can buy clutches and flywheels in a package, especially when you buy them from a reputable dealer. They should sell you the right clutch and flywheel for your dsm. Let us know what your choice is and how it turned out.

Grab a South Bend clutch for a daily. The ACT is a good clutch but the 2600 pedal feel is hard in comparison to the stock clutch. For traffic (specially big traffic) the ACT 2600 is a pain. I'd say get something like the ACT 2100 if you want to go ACT or like I mentioned one of the lower end South Bend clutches (2200 lbs of clamping force). I recently bought the 2200 southbend for my Laser RS with an 18g turbo but haven't installed it yet so can't tell you first hand experience for now. Although my Laser had an ACT 2600 in it, and it's one of the reason it's going out (that and the tranny has issues, doing everything at the same time).
