HX40 145mph trap speed record......

Has a smaller turbo gone faster in a similar weight car? I know talondave went 145mph in his HX40 powered 1G. I'm not sure about his race weight, but I'm curious if any turbos with smaller compressor inducers have made faster traps?

I'm considering the T3 HX40 for a 2g auto setup as my first DSM. I want a turbo that will come up on the converter without needing a small shot to get it out of the hole.

Not sure, but one of the closest would be the HX35 (54mm inducer) which has trapped 137mph....that's pretty impressive for a turbo with a compressor wheel identical in size to the T04E50 Garrett.

I liked my HX35 but I would like a bit more.

Justin, do you think the HX40 with the T3 .70ar housing will come up on the converter without spray? Is anyone running a HX40 in a auto AWD car? I'm thinking it could be an effective boost only setup.

English racing had a 1g with a fp3065 that ran a trap of what I beleve was 141. Best et of that car was 9.6..

^ Definitely good trap speeds from a smallish 30R turbine. I now see where the 16G's TD05H turbine has gone in the mid 130's as well.

Yup but we cant forget that 3065 car was on 11.1 compression stroker motor.. The compression is the reason that car made 620 at 25 psi..I can only imagine how much power a hx40 would of made with a motor to that spec.. Would of probly seen 800 hp and traps at 155

^ Right, which is still damn impressive for a 30R turbine handling that much exhaust energy. I'm sure that's why the dyno was only at around 25psi....any more boost would just be wastegated as the turbine was probably at it's flow limit.

So ER FP3065 car went faster or about the same speed as talondave's HX40car? I figured if any turbo would be close it would be the 3065 or maybe a PTE 5857.....

It also seems that the ER car had a displacement and CR advantage over dave's car. So it's not exactly an apples to apples comparrison, but they never are. I'd like to see someone like ER or Cdub strap an HX40 on one of their cars with 1000's of hours of R&D in it and make a pass. But cars like that don't usually chose 60mm $400 tractor turbos for setting records. That leaves it up to us poor boys to prove the Holset turbos can hang with the best. Which I believe they can. At least in the <60mm range.
