headlight painting [Merged 10-8] paint headlights head light lights painted

my buddy has a 95 talon and wants to change the headlight housing color to gunmetal. Is it possible to take apart the lens and paint inside there? Any tips we should look out for if we do this?

Well I was bored today so I wanted to clear out my 2g headlights....anyways, baked them for 275 for 15 minutes and pried them apart, and took out the orange plastic...

now im wondering if I should maybe paint the inside of the headlight (the shiny stuff) ?!?

I think it'd look cool if it was the same color as my car, and maybe even a dark blue or something (kinda like the new 06 vettes have the headlights matched to the car)...

please give me some feedback about this and if it's been done before...

I think that it would look great. I did it to my red 2gb talon and I really like the way it came out. I just scuffed it up a little bit and the used some gloss black krylon fusion and it worked great. Going on 1 year now with no chipping or flaking at all.

now there are two parts to the inside of the headlight...theres the chrome shiny stuff around where the bulbs go, and then theres the chrome shiny stuff that goes around the outer plastic......should I paint everything inside the headlight, or just the outer or inner chrome shields? there are a lot of ways to go about doing this, and I just can't decide what to do!! haha

p.s....does anybody know the paint code or the name of the paint on my car? its the purplish dark grey that come stock on the talons

id just black out the housings. then they look like 97-99 lights.

make sure you only paint the bezel which is the outer shinny part.
not where the bulbs are other wise youll have illumination problemsthis parts should remain chrome, by painting just the bezel it looks great plus thats how 97-99 are done anyway!!!

alright guys, just got done painting em....i only painted the outer part, because i figured id have illumination probs like boostnhard said... i actually ended up painting them a really crazy blue color, similair to the civic si blue...i wanted to make them look exotic with a crazy color, thats kinda dark like my paint too...i'll post pics once they're on the car!!

Only paint what the article shows. Do not paint the chrome part behind the bulbs as that is there to reflect the light.

k so i finally finished the whole headlight project, and i took some pics on my cell phone of the final product....i just can't imagine what it will look like on the car... the reason I chose blue was because I wanted something that would stand out and look exotic, and that blue is definitely not an everyday color

Sorry, but I think that is going to look terrible. It is not going to match anything on your car, you should have at least color matched them...

I'm going to have to agree until I see some pictures of them on. I'm skeptical though.

haha, i just cant wait to slap them on, because from all the pictures ive photoshopped it looks awesome...its like mean blue eyes staring at you

kind of like how some ferraris that are red, will have yellow headlight housings...well my paint is a dark greyish color, and the blue will be a perfect accent for it

it'll definitely look exotic

I think it will look like crap and ricey. It just looks tacky. Like everything else though, its just my opinion
