Had my first taste of E-85.....

With that tune I would pump up boost as high as possible on that 50 trim.

Agreed, hopefully he at leat tuned you up to some reasonable boost levels if he's not going to give you any timing or a decent AFR. I tuned mine back to 11:1 from 12:1 and lost a noticeable amount of power... Needless to say i went right back to the 12:1 map after trying it.

Im to scared to run that lean. I asked Jack at jacktransmissions the other day why he so religiously tunes pump gas and e85 too 11.1 afr. He then said because Ive never burned up a valve. He builds 2-3 heads a week and many of the guys have burned up valves some running e85 and tuning leaner than 11.1. I believe him because they build tons of motors and have tuned e85 for a long time.

Jay, i can see your point of view, but myself, i feel as if i'm the test bed for things that i do for my customers. So, because of that i tend to push my things a little further or try things on my car first before i will do it for a customer unles they are wanting to or willing take a chance.

I feel confident in my tune ar 12:1. Although i have gone a little too high in my off load timing map and need to correct it today, or make provisions in the air and coolant temp maps to compensate with lower timing while things are warming up to full temp. But i guess 26 - 28* of timing under the first 5 psi at around 2500-3k is a bit much anyway, but how would i have ever known with out taking the chance. THankfully i have teh ability to monitor what's going on to the point of not having to suffer any damage

I think its great your running it that lean, it is a great test. All the fastest guys here in Colorado wont go any leaner than 11.5 on e85 with there dsm's. And I'm talking about the fastest of the fastest we have here. Thats another reason I'm scared to go any leaner.\

Hopefully all is good and you can prove that its ok.

11.5:1 isn't far off from where i'm at. The tune fluctuates between 11.7 and 12.0, I just went out and turned the alky back on so it's going to be richer again. I mainly want to run it for the pre-turbo cooling and the way it changes the compressor maps efficeincy range :)

I guess were getting a little OT, so for the OP, how are things going? HAve you made any changes or ran any tests or taken logs??

If these guys are really that fast then there pushing a lot of boost/ timing.
If I had 500 + WHP id likely not run that lean neither. Some of it just comes down to cylinder pressure and combustion temps and every setup will shine at different points...

I think most of the guys who burn valves run their whole tune lean, like while cruising and etc. How often are you at WOT, and when you are at WOT how long does it last?
Maybe 4 or 5 seconds tops if your on the street; maybe 12-13 seconds down the track....
If your a guy who road races and spends a lot of time at WOT or something like that then sure you may want to go richer. Tune your car for how long/ hard you drive it.

If e85 is as consistent as race gas, then 12.1 is a good AFR on e85 in a street car thats not making too much power or stressing other limitations of the tune in my opinion .
But then again, dont listen to me because Ive never ran e85

I am the one thats doing some of the tuning......The driver of the car(my roomate) wont let me up the timing anymore...

The car is on 24 psi, about 17* peak and 11.1 AFR.....The tranny needs to come out cause the clutch slips hards when we try and do a pull.....Ill update he in about two weeks when we get everything done...

Is it your car or his? I think even a few more degres of timing would put you right where you need to be... about 20 under WOT would be kick ass and still safe. I'm runnin 22 - 23 and about to add timing in te 6 - 8k RPM range probably progressing up to 25* or so by redline. I just depends on how it feels and how the motor acts

Very good points here, I never thought of it that way. You are right, these guys usually are making 500-700whp uncorrected which is a lot more power than Im pushing. Also these cars are mainly track driven. So all it sees is WOT runs. Ive seen some of them run a motor down as short as 10,000 miles and I always thought that was horrible, but thats 10,000 miles of WOT runs trapping 130+mph.

look guys you dont need big ass injectors and i big inline pump to make 400hp on e85.
this is a car that made 575hp and is on a single wally 255 and rc 1000cc injectors running
under 28psi on e85. i also did a galant that made 518hp at 26psi in a single wally and 850cc
injectors on e85.

vid of the teg. im the guy in the camo sweater.

I know a few guys up here making over 500whp on 1000cc injectors and a single wally. I always said that 1000cc injectors or larger just to be safe and gives you room to grow. I just dont agree with buying 750's for an e85 setup. Good numbers on these cars.

What IDC's are these cars seeing?

on the dsm it was in the upper 80's idc and the teg was lower 90's idc but
11.5's a/f's for the dsm and low 12's a/f's for the teg.

Hm. i wonder why i'm back at 97% IDC with a brand new wally 255HP and a new set of 1000cc injectors? I must have some kind of shortage or blockage somewhere, but then again my alternator is only putting out 12.7 volts this week, so i may gain some fuel by utting a new one in.

I put a new alt in today. 13.955 volts at idle. Close enough to 14 for me. I didn't get to blast it WOT because my woman was in the car and we had just gorged ourselves at outback steakhouse (didn't want to make her sick LOL )

I"ll know by tomorrow though. If my AFR goes fat in the top end where i'm running all that duty cycle i will know that i can leave it alone. I'm building dual pump hangers anyway though. I figure i'd rather run dual pumps and make it easy on them as opposed to pushing one 255 to it's limits.
