Do people literally just do things and never consider what it's causing? Oh this here things leaking, i'll pull it off, dump a tube of silicone all over it, and slap it back together. That big hole in the center with a hose attached obviously doesn't do anything but leak. :aha:
 
Thank you JusMX141 for posting up these examples and showing people what kind of damage they could be causing, it helps the community a lot to see things like this.
 
Haha, when I got my talon, there was enough rtv on the tbody flange to use on the whole engine. I use nothing but the paper gasket. If it leaks, I figure out why, and fix it, not bandaid it up with rtv

Regardless "seals" must be blown.

I just rebuilt a transmission, that had a leak where the shift shaft assembly bolts into the housing(3000gt), to try to fix the leak, they covered the outside of the mating surface with a whole tube of rtv.
 
The two bolts that hold the flange to the pan are flat on the underside w/ no split washer. This is so that they seal the oil in and they don't leak. I bet many leaks are "fixed" with RTV when just using the proper bolts for the flange to oil pan would have fixed the leak. Remember the OEM doesn't use RTV on barely anything in these cars. When it became a good idea to RTV gaskets and use copper spray on head gaskets I'm not sure but it's definitely not how Mitsu would assemble our cars. That's monkey back yard mechanic crap right there bandaid fixing a problem that isn't understood properly.
