Gst Refusing to start

My eclipse is refusing to start. It did it every once in a while and now it doesnt almost every time I try to start the car. When I turn the key I just hear one loud click sound and its not the repeated clicking sound you hear when your battery is dead-just one solid click and the the motor doesn't turn over. I try numerous times before finally the motor turns over and cranks right up. If it was the starter, wouldnt you hear nothing? Anyone ever had a similar problem?

Wheres the click coming from, under the hood or behind the stereo?

Pretty sure it's the starter.
Parts stores will test it for you for free.

The click sounds like its coming from under the hood.

Zacks right then, pull the starter and get it to a local car parts store to get it tested. ENSURE you disconnect the battery from ground before you remove the one thats in there and install the new one, its a critical step of the removal/installation procedures you don't want to skip.

^^ Already stated. Thats the best bet. If your ALT is good then look into the fuel pump. Your fuel pump could be bad now.

Sounds to me like the ALT, but if not i would check the fuel pump (and if you havent replaced it already, probally good to do anyways.)

Oh and lastly same with your spark plugs, always just a good thing to replace on a regular basis. I always do mine every oil change.

There's a walbro fuel pump in there. Are those known to go bad quickly? And I just replaced the alternator a month ago when it went bad. And is there a guide or write up on removal/replacement of the starter?

Pull the battery out to give you room and remove the battery tray while you're at it. Unhook the UICP from the TB and get it out of the way. Reach in between the engine and firewall on the back of the block and take out the two bolts holding the starter to the bellhousing. Unhook the starter's electrical connections. Granted, it's tighter than most 12 year olds in there, but with enough practice you'll be able to do it in about 5 minutes.
