So I just bought a 90 Eclipse Gst the other day and much to my dismay it's having a rough time starting up. The dude I bought it from used it as his daily driver, was a mechanic and is pretty straight forward about the car. When I looked at and drove it at his work it was all good, drove and started perfectly. After buying it I drove it home and parked it and shut it off immediately, no cool down. When I went out this morning to start it and move it to replace the thermostat it had a very rough time firing. It took about 3x and feathering the throttle to get it to start and when it did the idle was real choppy around 1.5k for a minute until I gave it a bit of throttle then settled back down to normal at 5. I'm at a loss for what it could be. It wasn't until the next day when I text the previous owner asking if he had problems that he told me the car had no Turbo Timer. (no idea if that really matters or could even have something to do with it.) So the car had been shut off without a cool down. As mentioned before it needs a thermostat, it doesn't overheat but definitely runs hotter than it should be. The car also has a small leak on the oil pan, which I can tell isn't much but yeah. I'm new to the DSM world and more importantly I'm new to the world of forced induction so I'm hoping some of you DSM veterans can help me out or at least point me in the right direction. The car is scheduled to have the thermostat replaced tomorrow so it'll be in a shop with professionals if someone could give me an idea to give them. Thanks!

Check for spark fuel and compression and the coolant temp sensor. Start somewhere and begin to rule things out lot of information on here on no starts.

I would definitely check the coolant temp sensor( the one for the ecu). Check basics like iugrad said and timing for sure. You can verify that the ecu is working properly and pull any codes using a digital multimeter on the diagnostic port.
Also a turbo timer has nothing to do with this and not really that important if you still have a stock oil and water cooled turbo, And do yourself a favor and build a boost leak tester and do a blt.
