well, im in school and forn welding i need a project. i love the sound of the o2 dump and wanted to fab up my own since i have no money. they have a mendrel pipe bender at my school, my question for you is, would a 2.5 inch piece of exaust piping be able to withstand the extreme temperatures right by the turbo. i will be cnc plasma cutting out both the flanges by the turbo, and for the exaust flange out of 3/8 in metal. any suggestions are great.

You're best off using a non-coated steel, welding it, then having it coated.

The size of the piping has nothing to do with it being able to withstand the heat. It's the thickness of the tubing and also your beads that will determine if it will hold. If you want to make your o2 dump then i would say minimum thickness .069. Also as for the size tubing you would want to use 2.5 for the tubing going into the down pipe and 1-3/4 for the actual dump.

yes i understood that, but i was wondering if just some extra 2.5 inch flowmaster piping i have laying around from my truck that was never used be able to withstand that. and i will be sure to weld it to perfection

well if the piping is .069 or thicker it will be fine. Also i would have it coated since i'm assuming you will be using mild steel.

a basic ceramic coating will do. But the best would be a swain tech coating. We have had customers with 700hp+ swear by them and the coating is so thick it's ridiculous.

is that like a ceramic coating as well or is that some other type of coating? and how much would that cost would you know off the top of your head?
