ForcedFour Time Capsule

1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T that was a piece of Lancaster, PA history that I've brought to MA. Also my first car that isn't rotten.

Snapped a rotten bolt that was holding the radiator fan in place when I took it off/put it back on. Guess I'll have to drill it out and find a replacement, since there's only two bolts on it currently.

Manifold is still off because I haven't gotten around to rethreading yet. I picked up some anti-seize so I can throw the other studs on and prep for throwing it back on.

If anyone knows what size the radiator fan bolt is, please let me know so I can start looking for a replacement! With only two bolts in, I don't feel comfortable running the car. ESPECIALLY with the polyurethane mounts.

At some point, I'll have to go through and replace all the rusty and rotten bolts in the bay. Not too many are, but I should still go and do it eventually.

The car is finally running again.

I found temp replacements for the radiator fan bolts. I'll pick up the right ones at work tomorrow.

It was so, so nice to drive the car again. I forgot how much fun this thing is. Not sure how much power it's making, but my butt says it's around 250 to the wheels. Definitely good fun.

Now the ground strap...

You can build your own ground strap. The next time you're at Autozone, buy the cheapest wire in whatever color you need, cheap crimpers, and cheap ring terminals that will fit the sensor. Remove the sensor from the car to match it up with the proper sized ring terminals if you need. Really easy.

I drove the car to work earlier, and on the drive home, I noticed that the transmission was slipping. It wouldn't catch when I was giving it gas at low RPMs. I thought it was weird. Got home, parked the car.

An hour ago, I had to leave to go somewhere. It's my 18th birthday and I was going out to grab something. I get in my car, start it, let it warm up... and when I put it in reverse? RPMs go up for a second to adjust, but I don't feel the car go into gear. I let my foot off the brake, and the car doesn't move. I put it in drive, and it doesn't move or go into gear. Low, doesn't go into gear.

Every time, the RPMs go up to adjust as if it were trying to go into gear and adjusting the RPM to connect smoothly, but it never goes into gear.

What a wonderful birthday present. I start a new job AND my car gives out on me.

Just a transmission fluid leak.

The leak that I thought was just from loose hose clamps might be from the hoses themselves. I'll check tomorrow.

The question is, is there transmission damage? We'll find out!

Hey, guys. It's been a minute. I've been so busy with working full time that I haven't had a ton of time to work on it other than what NEEDS to get done.

Fixed the transmission leak, it was just some hoses and clamps. Nothing crazy.

The A-Pillar trim just... came off earlier today while I was driving to work. Hit a repaved strip of road and it just popped right off. Guess it gives me an excuse to get pillar pods tho :p

The paint is getting worse every day. Turns out, the orange paint was painted OVER the factory red, so it just flakes off at random. Restoring the factory red is on my to-do list.

I want to remove the black paint on the Talon wheels and run all four. I also need to get a new front AND rear lightbar. Rear is cracked and tinted, front is just... tinted to hell, debadged, and I don't have lowbeams.

I'm debating sourcing 1G Eclipse frumper and bumper, because I currently have a Talon front and rear, but that's too much work and I don't want to have to fiddle with a new frumper to get it to fit right.

I don't have clips on almost every part of the front and rear bumper, but the issue isn't that the clips aren't there. It's that I CAN'T get clips in because the surfaces themselves are snapped or broken. A clip would just fall right out. Yaaay :banghead:

I've noticed some gnarly heatsoak occasionally and I want to upgrade the radiator because I can't stand blasting the heater constantly to draw heat away.

My oil pressure is all over the place, and I don't know if I just never noticed it before or if something is actually broken. Gonna change the oil and keep a closer eye on it.

The coolant reservoir is just... hanging out in the engine bay. Not mounted, not nothing. Just hanging out. The cap pops off while I'm driving sometimes so that's just awesome.

I want to try to source the sidemolding that these cars had initially. The cut down the side and door, whatever that's called. I think it looks incredible, but whoever had it before me decided to remove it so it just looks super flat.

As much as it might sound like I'm getting tired of dealing with my car, I'm really just getting started. I truly adore it and look forward to making it how I want it and getting it running right! :dsm::hellyeah:

Btw if anyone knows where I can find the side molding, PLEASE let me know! That's something I want to get ahold of before painting the car.

If you are using the stock oil pressure gauge as a reference for oil pressure it has been known to be unreliable. May want to put in an aftermarket gauge since you are already doing the triple pod. There are quite a few older discussions about it
Generally, AFR, Oil pressure and boost are the standard 3 gauge choices. Good luck! Keep it up
Yeah that makes sense. I'll start looking into it! :thumb:

Found some fiberglass 1GA side molding from Carbonetics, but from everything I've heard about them I'm not too sure if I should buy from them. Anyone have any input or personal experience with them?

From what I've seen and heard on facebook, the fiberglass parts seem to get to the customer much faster than the carbon parts.

That being said, everything I've heard from people about their shipping taking 1 year+, Sergio's shady communications with customers, refusing refunds because "It's almost ready" and that he's "not a scammer", makes me never want to do business with him. I wanted a carbon hatch and hood for my 2g, and if I ever get those things, it will be a marketplace find or a different company. The way I've put it into facebook groups is, you'll only get your order in a timely fashion if you're a drag racer that's known in the community or if you're an influencer.

I personally wouldn't take a chance with them, however it's possible the fiberglass parts will be delivered in a more timely fashion.

Yeah that makes perfect sense.

It just sucks cuz like... I don't know where else to find the sidemolding. People rarely remove it, so I'm in a weird situation where there isn't a ton of aftermarket for it. Regardless, I'll figure it out eventually. I appreciate it! :thumb:

There's the quarter panel molding in my local junkyard. Door and fender moldings are either messed up or non-existent. That may be your best bet, or maybe hit up Miller Import Parts? I had a good experience buying a fuel tank from him. He has a bunch of 1Gs and 2Gs in his yard.

Could also try and see if anybody has a good set on Facebook too. I see part outs all the time by me, I can keep my eye out for you!
