Flared 1G fenders for wider tires

I believe they're something around a 33-35, I need to check. They don't fit with the normal coilovers, the strut cups had to be cut considerably to make them fit. The wheel is within 1/2 of the suspension and any wider tire would probably make contact with the suspension, they rub the fender wells when the wheel is turned over all the way. I'll get a pic, but I'm pushing it right now, a lower offset would make all the difference.

There's a "how to" fender rolling article in the latest (Aug) issue of Grass Roots Motorsports. Page 116...

Just saw this thread. What I did was use some ZG flares for a Z car. Get them here: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7BSA02/50-1562

There are very nicely made and fit the car farely well. I did do a little bit of triming on the ends of them but not much. Then I just screwed them on after make sure they are exactly where I wanted them. I am running coilovers and the car is very low, so I did cut about a inch more clearence off the front fender and as much as a could off the rear without hitting the seam as Greg mentioned.

You can see them on my car in my avatar. I will try to get bigger pics up. Those are 17x9 wheels wrapped in Azenis RT-615 255/40ZR17 tires.

Oh and they come black so i didn't bother painting them. The paint on my car has had some rattle can fixes so I wasn't worried about it matching perfectly. Hope that helps

Bigger pictures would be awesome to see. I'd love a set of those and some 255's :D

Def. need some pics of that. Are you having to use spacers for that wide of a tire?? I'm moving up to some 245/45/16 hoosiers next year and was worried about clearing the suspension. Obviously I'll need some flares like that too and would help to have a close up shot of them.

I would love to see bigger pictures as well, I am getting ready to paint my car and this would be as good a time as any to install some flares. I keep reading the track logs and can't help but to think that it would be a much bigger rush to road race rather than drag....

Make sure you look into what it costs to go road racing. It's definitely more expensive than taking your car out to a dragstrip on a weekend night or something.

MG200, you seem to have the internet picture thing figured out, but if you need any help getting the photos hosted just e-mail them to me. [email protected]

Whoa, that looks sex. I was thinking about those Z-flares when I saw the red eclipse picture for the first time. If I can get 17x9 on my car like that it would be nice.

Here's a link to make your own found on a drifter forums. Since they are so popular to have wide-stretched tires:http://www.ziptied.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8148

Wow, those look even better than I ever imagined they would. This is going to definitely get added to my "to do" list once I get my coilovers on the car.

I know the cost of road racing will be very prohibitive and I would definately start with autocross and take some classes out here at PIR, anyway it would be years of prep before my car would be capable of any sort of competitive racing.

Anyway about the flares, once the panel is riveted on could it be blended with fiberglass to cover the rivet holes? My main concern would be that the rivets would allow to much flex and the final finish would end up cracking.

Chris - you just need a front clip from me, then you'll have all sorts of room for those little dinky tires at that end :)

Good to see you on here Kev, you get anything else sorted with the car since the evo/wrx shootout? Hope you're bringing it to the dsm shootout.

On topic though I think that'd be a good deal for the front end, but then he still needs to figure out a way to get something fatter on the rear as well, and you're rear suspension setup (while utterly amazing) might not be the best option for an awd'er :thumb: :D

:) yeah Kevin, with your front clip I'd have plennnnnty of extra room - almost too much room.

At a few points while profiling the model and when taking it to the mold shop, I had temp spares on the car. You could almost climb up and make a home between that tire and the inner fenderwell :)

Just to clarify though, I was definitely joking about this. That front clip would have way too much room to look decent with that size tire, and a 1-pc just isn't very practical for a road-race style car. You would need to support it very well and it would be a pain to take off/put on with all the supports required.

I'm try to not highjack the thread - but yes, I found some of the problems I was having and yes, I will be at the talon shootout.

My entire front clip is held on by seven bolts and only takes minutes to remove and attach. It was a bit of a challenge fabricating the brackets but it's stronger then the original, especially with the down force on the front splitter at a 150mph... ;)

Must resist urge to click "buy now" button for those fenders since my wheels will look retarded sitting in so close and I don't have coilovers either yet.

I just put my 255/40 RT-615's on the car. 37mm offset, don't need to roll the fenders, tires stick out just a touch if anything, not really noticeable. I run pretty stiff springs though 700/400.

Its 37mm, the wheels are 8" wide - suboptimal I know - so it pulls the sidewalls in a touch. It's really tight on the inside both front and rear, especially rear, but I've chalked the the inside sidewalls during my shakedown slalom and skidpad test and wasn't showing any rubbing.

Go news is that since the wheels are spaced out from the car as far, I don't have any rubbing issues at full lock even with my brake ducting in place
