Flared 1G fenders for wider tires

Do you even need to flare it???

Maybe this was mentioned, dont have time to read all the posts (will later)

I have 255's on my car right now, and its dropped a decent bit. Only on 16's, but its not that much of a diff. after the tire size is said and done.

They fit fine.... I dont know how thick of a tire your using, but I spose if it wasnt low pro then ya, it would rub....

Im gonna be buying some flares though later on, and mold them in...

But ya. I was just crurious as to how close you would actually be to rubbing..... Ill get pics of mine next chance I get. (weekend)

Chris---Actually, I did a quick mock up on the car this weekend and even though the E30 flares seem to match the shape of our cars better, at the bottom, they come tighter in than the Z flares, as in they are not as wide at the bottom, thus will require more work than the Z flares to get on properly. So, hope that helps your decision anyway. I think once done, they will ultimately look better, although that obviously isn't the priority here. Good luck! Talk to you soon..

Phil

ps--to avoid confusion, I don't mean wider in the lateral sense, I mean if you were standing on the side of your car looking at your wheel arches, the E30 flares curve in tighter than where the front bumper cover bottom is and where the front of the side skirt starts. So, I will actually have to widen the arch of the flare to make it flush..........

I can visualize what your talking about but take a picture of this before you widen it
so we can see whats all involved then take an after pic when its all said and done... Thanks.

I used the fender rolling tool on my 2g on all 4 corners with very good results, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to achieve what you want, I folded the lip over and pushed the fender out about an inch, gaining around 1.5" in total.. I could have gone a lot more, the front is flimsy and easy, the back is harder..

You can be pretty aggressive with it, I think I could have pushed the front out about 3 inches if I wanted, here's a before and after of a 240 flair job using the eastwood tool.

And a link to the 240sx tutorial using this tool, great info here for someone who wants to go this route: http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=206395

I didn't go anywhere near that far, but it shows you what you can do if you really want.. and I think it'll probably be cleaner looking than any add-on flairs.

My 240z flares will be here next week. Many pics to come when they arrive

I think I'll have the wheels here this weekend, hoping I get the rest before the 4th so I have a day to tinker around with everything.

sweet..get those pics up soon. i'm waiting for my wheels to get here so i can get the flares as well. did you just order the zg flares?

Still haven't got the flares, but I'll be riveting them on after painting them gloss black.

These did come in however.

wow, those are quite a bit taller, 0.6" larger diameter than stockers, 35 series would have been a closer to stock fit, slightly lower gears too.

edit: just saw you're going from 16" to 17" it would only be 0.6" more diameter on a 275/40/16, you're going up to 275/40/17? maybe there's a typo, how is that going to fit? that's a full 1.6" more diameter... but I don't really know about the 1g.

They'll stick out some. But if you're going to compete with a 1G you either bolt on some flares or have your tires stick out.

This is not a simple bolt on wheel and tire package. If you're not willing to do some interesting suspension work or hack up your fenders then stick with a 245/40-17.

The preferred package is the 285/30-18, but I am on a budget. I picked up wheels, tires, and flares for under $1400 shipped and taxed to my door. Hard to beat that.

Anyone know of any writeups for isntalling universal fender flares which includes cutting up fenders? I'll figure it out myself if I have to, but I'd love to have something to look over.

damn mavisky that was a sick rim and tire set up. Looks like something youd put on a 350 or something. Wish I had the money to get some wide ass tires and 17in rims like that.
o.d., we definitly have to see pictures when you get everything on, and Im curious how much work involved in fitting it.
My 225/50/r16 tires on 3rd gen Rx7 rims barely clear my suspension
( I need coilover set up I guess to go wider. )
But i was into doing the fender flare thing, just dont know if it would look right doing fender
flares on my current application...?

Flares arrived today. Hoping to have the wheels mounted and balanced by this evening, pics to come.

This ain't going to be easy though.

Well everything but the flares are mounted up. Going to be laying those out and installing those this week.

For the time being though I couldn't resist raising the ride height and mouting these big bastards on the car though.

OK so they stick out a bit.

Still haven't "white-walled" the tires yet.

These wheels never would've fit without the slim coilovers from Jason Mertes at Disturbed Racing.

Should look real good once the flares get added on. 4x4 mode is only temporary thank god.

Splitter will be on as soon as its ordered. I still hate to put a rear wing on it even though I know I'll have to eventually.

Definitely turns heads when I drive it around on the streets that's for sure.
