Ferrari shift gate setup for a dsm [Merged 10-6] gated shifter

It's fairly simple. he said he made them wide enough it would work and he cut out the stock shifter. Just welded in the new one that's thinner in diameter. You can bet I will be doing this for my weekend project.

<----never welded before LOL thats what i meant when i said in too deep...it would loook awesome though im gonna get my neighbor to weld a new shifter on....if you get yours done post as many pics as you can im very interested as well...also what shifter do you plan on buying to weld in? thanks a lot!

Ancient thread, but I have a question still.

Has anyone ever tried one of their products on a 2g? For the 48 bucks I might just be willing to experiemnt. Hard to say how well it works or if its compatible with a B&M or the like. Any feedback would be appreciated.
That'll work great on a Civic. As Post #76 above illustrates, the DSM shifter's lever is wider than the space between gear positions. You will need to replace it with a much thinner lever.

Go ahead and try to make one just mocked-up out of cardboard, or crumb-board or the like. You will quickly see the problem.

Try driving a car with a damned gated shifter. You would never want to own one.

I agree with all of those points. Neat for looks, lame for driving. I was just curious if anyone had tested the one in the link since they offer one specifically for 2g's that makes no mention of any required modification.

Hey, i was looking into shifter gates for my car and found nothing but found that quite a few people are interested in them. So i made the call to jm fab and they said if they can get enough interest they would look into creating a setup for our cars (mine being a 2g). So voice up here if you would be interested in seeing/purchasing something of the sort. Thanks

I've been interested for a while, but to do it properly it's going to involve a lot more than throwing a notched piece of aluminum where teh shifter boost should be. To make it reliable there needs to be a firm plate with at least 3-4 legs connecting to the center driveshaft hump. other wise it will just move around when you start relying on the gate to control shifting. If he comes up with something for 150 or less and it's sturdy like the ones Ferrari uses ( i fell in love at first shift) then i will buy one. I've been considering making one myself, but all the cutting of the center console, modifications to things around it so that it can be useful ..all this has caused me to lose motivation as there's no garauntee that it would even be functional the first try.

Don't get me wrong, great idea, I just think by the time anyone could make one "good" the price would be rediculous becaue of the time wasted on diferent versions till getting it right and making it heavy duty enough for some hard shifts.. like I said, if it works and is less than 150 bucks i'll take one.

Better yet, have him make a fully sequential gearbox so i can make paddle shifters on the wheel :D

All he needs to do to make it is make a pattern of his exact shift pattern and cut it onto cardboard and trace it to Steel or aluminum. Doesn't look hard, but you know what they say about appearances...

There was a MASSIVE shifter gate thread on here or on Talk in like 03. I think one or two actually got made, but not much ever came of it.

It's definitely doable with some fab work and ingenuity, although I don't think the gates in our cars are as perfectly straight as the labos & ferraris

I wish there was a way to like... mold the shift pattern some how. Imagine taking off the knob and slipping a piece of clay or something at the base and just shift to mold the pattern.

Yeah, I'm sure someone has it already. I just like the look of it. I don't plan on puting my car in any shows anytime soon. This is just something I wanted to do for me. If any one knows of any pics with this mod though please post it so I know what it'll look like!

You'd probably need a symborski shift kit and shifter cable bushings to make your shift pattern more static before you fabbed it up, that would probably help quite a bit.

This is a good point.

Jknorr, your best course of action would probably be to buy a dremel and a piece of 1/8" or 1/4" mdf and go from there. If you can get that made, you could have something cnc'd from your master.

I think I would make one first, then a revised one later. I'll need about a 1/2" piece of some kind of metal. Or maybe I was thinking of making it look OEM and put black plastic on it...

I think It can be done To work perfect by making a 1 1/2 riser instead of mounting the plate where the boot is.It can be molded out of fiberglass and rapped in black leather for looks.By raising the plate up 1 1/2" it would give you 1/2" between each slot.I just started working on it now.Ill send a pic when complete.
