Carpet replacement [Merged 10-7]

I know taking the dash out is unneccessary, but it would simplify the install, and I wont have to cut ournd the base of the dash where it connects to the floor, might make it harder for someone to replace 10 years from now, but it will be more complete than the factory had it...

No my carpet didnt come with the plastic side moldings that attach to the door, Im just going to pull those off the old carpet, and the carpet I got is cut and molded, it is a little oversized but that is normal (about 2 inches on every corner needs to come off) and I need to pick up a little bit of additional insulation for under the driver and passenger seat to keep out road noise and heat.

The color is darker, but I wanted a darker shade anyways, I got the headliner to match the carpet, and the seats will be re-upholstered in about 6 months with dark grey leather with silver centers and TSI embroidered on the head rest... (www.leatherseats.com if anyone is interested, a friend of a friend opened that business so I feel obligated to throw their name out there )

Well I have finally gotten all of my tuning issues on my recent rebuild straightened out. Now I am ready to work on the appearance of the car. I have already completed the body work and I will be spraying the car once the weather cooperates ( it has rained every day that I have been off for past three weeks).

My problem is that I had a special guest in my car while it was parked out back. I have removed the nuts and terds that the friend left me, and also the carpet that it stained. Now I need to find a replacement carpet but I cannot find one in decent shape. Does anybody know where to find an aftermarket replacement carpet that will not cost me an arm and a leg?

This place sells carpets for our cars but don't know your price range. Check it out and I hope it helps. http://www.accmats.com/

Dang I feel like a DA now. That place is only 10 miles from my house so I guess I will ride by tomorrow and see what kind of a deal I can get. Thanks for your help.

So since I'm having my seats redone and my carpet is hideous, I am just going to replace it. I've been trying to clean it and I just give up after messing with it for almost a week. I can get carpet from Mitsu for $120ish that is obviously molded and will fit perfect. It seems as though most aftermarket carpets run about the same price but typically arent molded and require trimming. I dont see why anyone would ever get aftermarket if that is the case.
My questions are do either carpets come with the padding that is under the factory carpet? And I can see light through my factory carpet if I hold it up to light, seems kind of thin but is it really worth getting a higher quality material if I buy aftermarket? Or maybe its just old and worn out?

In my opinion, the best solution would be to take out your carpet and powerwash it at a car wash. This even gets out all the dirt and grease and makes your carpet look brand new

What I did on a car that I had bought awhile ago is I purchased some carpet at Walmart. Only like $30 total for 2 rolls of carpet. Redid my whole carpet with that, looked amazing. Although it took 2 hours to do followed up by new seats, the result was worth it.

Already did it, and believe me, the previous owner messed stuff up pretty bad.

How did you get it to follow the floor frame instead of just sloping up over the seat mounting bars and other unusual area that arent flat planes?

I just cut around it. My grandfather owned a carpet buisness, and he tought me some cool tricks and ways to get around things. I had a couple tools that helped out pretty nice too.

So can anyone answer my questions?

Yeah man, get new carpet. Its worth the time and effort.

I know that, still my question is what is the advantage of aftermarket over OEM if they are they same price? Better quality material?

If it is the same cost and all you want is to replace your carpet without the hassle then get the OE. I chose aftermarket because I did not want all of the padding in my carpet(weight :notgood: ).

Aftermarket carpet is available in a lot more colors than OEM carpet, and you can have mats match your carpet if it is aftermarket.

i didnt want to spend the money on a new carpet so i got carpet dye and it worked great you may want to try it before you spend the time and money on getting another.

I have read a few threads hinting that there is a difference in Carpets from a 2g FWD to a 2g AWD. I was just hoping somebody can confirm or deny this. Im planning on ordering carpet towmarrow, and need to make sure its going to fit right! I was going to get it from mitsu, but they can't get black.

Thanks
