Evo 8-10 Brembo Calipers DSM Conversion (for 1g too)

Got mine done this weekend. I will post up pictures probably wednesday. Didn't have too many issues at all just had to clear away the caliper. Make sure when doing this to double check it. Mine was fine and cleared all bolted down, then I put the tire on which sucked the rotor over then realized "oh I need to shave more" LOL but other than that no major issues. I went with Evo 8 calipers, then forgot to order lines. So I went to a local shop that is big into Evos and picked up a set of braided lines for and Evo 8. They fit like a charm.

I finished my swap *cough* 2 years later *cough* just this last weekend. If anyone has questions/comments/concerns feel free to shoot me a PM or ask in this thread, preferably the later so the info is out here for all to read.

I took the hard road and cantered them up, required a bit of extra grinding on the knuckle but worth it if you ask me.

Purely for looks, but they must be cantered using the kmv bracket so I chose up. Facing them downward requires less grinding on the knuckle but to me it didn't look right.

any way to make them face forward like they would on the Evo?

too expensive. I just bought the knuckle kit because i'm replacing everything suspension related. Just trying to keep cost down.

If you can find the old set of brackets that KMV made and are willing to remove a lot of the knuckle they can be centered. I took my knuckles off the car and used a mill to remove the stock caliper mounts and metal that was in the way.

I wouldn't have gone through all that trouble though if the current brackets were available when I bought mine.

I still have never gotten around to taking a picture from behind the rotor with the bracket mounted up.

Those are Gram Light 57 Maximums in 17X8.

Ok so I'm wondering if the knuckles differ from GS, RS, GS-T GSX? I would love to grab a spare set at the pick'n'pull to work on. Also as far as the 95-96 and 97-99 any other difference? For instance could I grab a set of a 96 GS and put them on my 97 GSX without any problem? Just a casting difference between the years correct?

Also anyone do the machine work and then have the knuckle powder coated?

Here are pics of mine. Car is dirty (don't judge). I totally missed the whole direct side shot.

^^^ Your rotors are on backwards, the CD/S rotors have a specific direction of rotation. By looking at your pictures both F's and R's need to be swapped to the other side of the vehicle to be correct. :coy:

Looks good otherwise. :thumb:

This is how they should look, its hard to explain but the CD/S must point towards the caliper itself.

Good catch Jordan, I shouldn't look at pictures and try to respond with a Tech answer after I just get back from the bar. Jordan is correct though, depending on the direction of the veins inside the rotor will depend on what side of the vehicle they need to be on to vent the most heat. Some rotors that are CD/S don't have directional veins so it really doesn't matter how they are oriented.

My hiccup and thanks for catching that. Check with the manufacturer of your rotors dsmspick so you know whether or not you've got them on there correct, or maybe you already have?

They should all be the same with perhaps the exception of those with ABS might have an extra hole drilled out for the sensor, but I am not positive since I do not have ABS.

Mine are non directional with straight veins. You can look down inside the rotor and tell. Honestly it didn't matter to me so I asked my gf what looked better she said this way so I was ok cool. Lol. Thanks guys for the catch but already got that covered.

Kool thanks, I will hit up a junk yard and get a spare set to grind on and have powdercoated.

So I am still trying to figure out what people (who have done this swap already) did for dust shields? I saw one write up where a guy custom fit Evo shields but that was only 1 and he used the JDM knuckle.

Also what options do we have after adding the Evo Brembos for wheels with drag slicks on them?

I ditched the shields.... And unless your drag wheels are 17" or larger... Good Luck. :)

J

I also ditched the dust shields. And as stated I don't think slicks are an option but you can get 17' drag radials.
