I cuurently have a JMF small battery kit in my car. I want to put a small 4 channel amp in (no sub just 4 speakers), but I don't think the battery will keep up. Can I put a small battery in the trunk with the amp and connect it in parallel with the battery up front? Is this just a bad idea or would it work ok

It up to your alternator to keep up, the battery acts like a big capacitor and evens out the load to keep the voltage from dropping but the alternator has to replace than energy.

Charging two batteries and keeping them isolated so that the "weaker" doesn't discharge the other can be an issue. If your not trying to run the radio for extended time with the car running perhaps putting a capacitor in the rear next to the amp will do the job for you.

You would need a battery isolation relay. Stinger makes some sweet ones. Also, your factory alt may keep up but upgrading to a Saturn one would help greatly.

I had two batteries in my Sentra with a stereo for a while. Never had any issues at all with it.
