I personally am looking to do some weight reduction while retaining the quiet/smooth ride, and still having a spare so I can go on the highway without getting flatbedded home.

heres some of my ideas, just normal of course.

CF hood
Ditch all of my stereo and just get upgraded 6x9, 5.25, and 3.5's hooked to the factory amp/deck.
CF Hatch<<<Anyone make one for us?
CF Spoiler<<Anyone make it?
Dimple Drilled/Slotted Rotors

What else is there? I dont wanna tear out all the sound deadening or the spare tire.

In all honesty, stripping everything out of an NT isn't worth it. You'd be better off to leave everything in, and take GOOD care of it so you can get a better resale value.

I stripped my GSX, and I somewhat regret doing it.

A 10% reduction would be pretty good on street iron. At that you'll take out much of the stuff you enjoy day to day....

From the self proclaimed king of weight reduction I can tell you that after getting past the easy stuff it rapidly beoomes either very labor intensive or costly. Figure $100/lb. Don't believe me? What's the differnce in a seat? Or difference in a flywheel? Or brakes for that matter? Trust me I've been down this road forever.

And let me understand; you put the car on a diet and then put in a stereo? WTF! LOL

I can't post a pic, but someone shoot me an email and I'll show you weight reduction from yesterday.

Well 2 8" subs and a whopping 125watt amp, 6.75" speakers in the front doors, definetly not to intensive. I don't need or want any of that other junk, but I MUST have music. It's still my daily driver and I drive all the way to spokane and portland for track days. How boring would that be with no music?

I'm all for lightening the car where you can easily and while you're changing parts already, but I HATE tin cans.

Ive done some weight reduction on my car, but i had another reason besides just weight reduction for most of the stuff i took out. AC drop, it didnt work and i didnt wanna bother with fixing it cause i never used it or missed it and why have nonworking crap in there that saps power from the engine. Emissions removal, not much weight there, but i figure the EGR block off would keep that TB from getting filthy again, have less places for a leak, and less clutter. When i cleaned the TB after i got the car going again my idle had raised up to 2k, thas 1k more then normal, i figure its cause i cleaned that thing out and it was letting more air in so it must be worth it to do EGR block off if it was that nasty, o and i did fix it back to 1k and stuff, LOL. lets see what else do i have sitting in my garage....Okay i did take out my spare, tools, front bumper and washer bottler for nothing other then weight redution, But i took out all my interior, carpet, everything sept the front seats panels on the doors and the dash/center console cause i like the way it looks, its all red and pertty and itll go nicely with my red/black racing seats and the dash and center console once i get it painted and stuff.:thumb: o and im getting CF hood and driveshaft down the road, maybe some better rims....might look into some doors maybe a hatch and maybe even some lexan if i get that far into it.

any of you guys ever replace your driveshaft to a lighter possibly stronger driveshaft as a form of weight reduction?

I used to have a tsi but things happened so I got a N/A. It takes massive amounts of work to pull good times. Quote me on MASSIVE. My friend races Saabs, yes, old ones at that. Hes gotten to the point where he'll strip the car, and take a sander to the inside of the paneling. It usually ends up at least half the thickness and you could probably punch right thru it. but he swears by it, Im not sure how much it would help a dsm, im a lil reluctant to try it myself.

glass, rear seats - even passenger seat. AC motor and all a/c shit, windsheild wiper motor and all that shit, carpet, all that foam sound deading shit. um strip everything in your hatch down to the metal.

You have to be carefull doing this as you will upset the balance of the already front heavy car, unless of course it's a drag queen, then just ignore me and go about your reading. If you plan to do anything other than drag racing the car should be as close to 50-50 front-rear as possible, if drag racing then as much weight on drive wheels as you can. hope this clarifies things:thumb:

Same here, I would love to see some NA DSM's go up agenst some NA honda's.

Is the car going to be used as an AutoX car or drag?

Anyone know the weights of the air conditioning (AC), power steeing, ABS. I have a 2g but I'd be interested in hearing 1g weights as well. I did some searching and some inconsistent reports.

I heard the 1g AC weights 45lbs.
ABS related parts for 1g - 20 lbs (also heard 75-100lbs but thats probably wrong)

I don't think the 1G A/C weighs 45lbs. I took mine out and it didn't feel very heavy at all. I'd estimate about 20-25lbs?

I wouldnt take anything out except air conditioning(if anything) with your daily driver. Otherwise driving your car might turn into a chore.

ABS is a pita the remove.. cruise and a/c aint nuttin to it. cruise wont save much sept the bay will look cleaner. lots to gain in loosing the ac. less weight. less shit driven off the motor, better air flow in radiator.

Not exactly on topic, but chassis tuning seems to fit the bill. I own a 1g AWD, completly gutted, fuel cell, take out the passenger seat for raceday, etc. What else can be done to reduce weight? Are there any tubular control arms available? CF hatch? I'd like to keep glass in the front and two side windows, but everything else is fair game. No p/s, a/c, washer fluid, windshield wiper motor, etc.. it's a street driven track car. I found a cf hood from some website a while back but cant find it now, I need a 1ga hood. Shep claims 2650 w/driver, what's his secret? :)

I dont thing this would be the right forum.

On the weight reduction side, from what you have, thats about it. If you are thinking of getting lightwieght suspension parts or a tube frame, i wouldnt even do that on a street driven car, its just a waste of time. You can make more than enough power on the stock body components with a larger turbo and correct tuning. Shep went into the 9's with all but a CF hood and the stock body.

Look into getting some windows from speedglass.

Magnus used to make fiberglass hatches, which are a BIG weight reduction.

A CF hood is another 30 pounds.

Have you replaced the seats with race seats, and pulled out all the stock seatbelt stuff? That's a big weight drop there.

There is a lot of little stuff too. Wheels, tires, battery, etc.
