I personally am looking to do some weight reduction while retaining the quiet/smooth ride, and still having a spare so I can go on the highway without getting flatbedded home.

heres some of my ideas, just normal of course.

CF hood
Ditch all of my stereo and just get upgraded 6x9, 5.25, and 3.5's hooked to the factory amp/deck.
CF Hatch<<<Anyone make one for us?
CF Spoiler<<Anyone make it?
Dimple Drilled/Slotted Rotors

What else is there? I dont wanna tear out all the sound deadening or the spare tire.

That would suck to sit in the back. Even if the person could fit (not like anyone really can).

Looks really clean. But like what Fayt said it would look better without the bottom seat there. And also where did you get that rear strut bar?

got the bar from a cataloge at work...its made by pilot, i had to request the carbon fiber over the phone.

Only problem I have with doing that is the exhaust noise. I mean, it's loud as it is, but open that passageway to the hatch and I need an orchestra to play live in my car if I get on it LOL.

Back seats = lamesauce.

I removed my rear seats two years ago and I love the look of it. I got the carpet from a local carpet store catalogue. It was automotive carpet colored Corvette grey. It wasn't a perfect match to factory grey but it real close.

Got any pics?

Was wondering if it would be a wise idea to cut the supports in the stock hood out for weight purposes. Mostly to keep weight off the top of the car. Would there be any ill effects to doing this, i would still keep the factory heatshield.

The main issue I can see with doing this is it would cause the hood to be extremely flexible. Basically you would be taking all of the structure out of the hood, and leving only the hood skin itself. IMO, if you're really concearned about weight, you would be better off to get a carbon fiber, or fiberglass hood.

A couple of guys on dsmtalk have cut out their rear cross brace in the trunk. Its hard to explain where its at without showing you. Right behind your backseat under the carpet between the shock towers is a factory brace. The two people that have done it have had it done for a while now and said there hasn't been any ill effects. I know one of the guys has had it done for two years now.

Ok, thanks guys, i'l opt out of cutting the hood supports. I really don't have the money right now for a CF hood, and i hate having weight so high up on the car.

Well a buddy of mine got a huge sheet of really thin tim, cut out a hood hammered it to match the hump in the stock hood, drilled holes to match the hood in the back, and he also drilled holes in the front and attached it to the radiator support so that way it would not blow open. This was on a full drag car, but it was VERY light.

myblack98gst you got any pics of what you have removed from inside the car?

pics of inside the car basically. looking to compare to mine thats all. thanks

Removing the whole abs system is a nice chunk of weight. I just removed mine, Ill try to weigh everything to give you an idea of the savings. Also remove the rear seatbelts if you are removing the seats.

EDIT: There is a piece of metal in the bottom trim piece that covers the steering column. Its has to be atleast 1lb. And the big piece of metal on the glove box door.

The rad noise will Definately increase. Both panels are out in my car right now because they are being fiberglassed, and I can't barely hear people on my phone while I'm on the highway.

Fiberglassing the inside may be an idea for you. Both of my panels upfront and in the back are all much, much, lighter then stock because they are fiberglass.

Also, under the steering wheel, there is a plastic panel that is connected by 2 or 3 bolts. Take this trim piece off, and underneathe you will find a chunk of sheet metal behind this panel. Take it out, and reinstall the plastic piece back on. The metal weight is maybe 5 pounds, but it's not needed at all.

Altogether I think I've saved around 35 pounds by fiberglassing my interior. Still not done yet, but I'll post pics sometime soon.

this is somethin i do night that i go racing, i take out the passenger seat and leave in my garage. you'd be supprised how much those da## seats way. they are at least 30 pounds each. all you do is lossen 1 bolts on each corner of the seat. takes only 1 minute to remove the seat. tips:thumb:

Wow, 3 whole HP.

Funny its not HP you gain, its more of faster acceleration.

Everything out of my trunk and my back seats with 1/4 of tank of gas plus me in the car, I weighed 2900.
