I personally am looking to do some weight reduction while retaining the quiet/smooth ride, and still having a spare so I can go on the highway without getting flatbedded home.

heres some of my ideas, just normal of course.

CF hood
Ditch all of my stereo and just get upgraded 6x9, 5.25, and 3.5's hooked to the factory amp/deck.
CF Hatch<<<Anyone make one for us?
CF Spoiler<<Anyone make it?
Dimple Drilled/Slotted Rotors

What else is there? I dont wanna tear out all the sound deadening or the spare tire.

While ya'll are on the subject of lexan, is it possible to swap out the front windshield (1g for me) with lexan? If so, where would buy it or have this done? Cost estimates? Does it look like plexiglass (spelling?) or can you even tell a difference when looking at it?

My windshield has small nicks all over it from rocks I guess. Looks like you could turn on the windshield wipers and clean the windshield but it's permanent. Just figured I'd look at the lexan option while changing out the windshield...if it's possible. It'll be driven on the street too by the way but there's not too much that's legal on it anyway ;)

Yes you can change out the front windshield (that's what I was talking about in my other post) check these places out:
http://www.percyshp.com/producthomespeedglass.html
http://up22.com/lexan.htm

I'm sure there are many more, with more competitive pricing as well. Speedglass is a little more expensive but it definately sounds like a nice product. Check out the weight sections as well on their website to see the differences. And the kits that replace the entire car's glass.

Lexan scratches very easily, and a front windshield is constantly getting pummled with sand and debris. If the car was absolutely 100% drag race only, it may last a little while, but other than that it wouldn't be very practical.

Speedglass has an anti-scratch & anti-pitting coating on it to make it more practical than conventional Lexan. However, I can't personally attest to how well it holds up to daily use.

I just ordered Percy's Speedglass for my car last week (complete kit). It is a drag only car but I still opted for the molded, coated sheets. Hopefully, it will hold up.

Please post some sort of review every so often in this post, It would be really nice to see how it holds up as I'm considering the front windshield as well. My car will be a drag race only vehicle though, so I won't be dealing with the daily driving stuff.

things like the window actuator, and the mortor, as well as the wiring for the power windows on both sides...like 10-12 lbs max for both sides...
the evo RS is stripped and its like 400lbs less that the standard one. thats pretty funny.

It adds up.

Sure if you were gutting the side impact beams from the doors, drilling holes in the bumpers, removing the windows and installing Lexan sheets, gutting the interior and leaving nothing but a carbon fiber bucket, going with lightweight 16" wheels, installing a carbon fiber driveshaft, taking out the sunroof and filling it in with an aluminum panel, and ripping out the wiring harness, but if you're just shaving off a nickel here and a dime there, it's about as useful as putting a jockey in the driver's seat.

Car has AC, PS both bumper supports removed. All sound deadning from the floor removed, 6 point cage racing seats, ABS removed, Small brakes no sunroof car etc. The reason I was asking about the conversion becouse I have it and Im cutting the door bars so Im gonna be in there anyway.

I should look into the jockey mod. ROFL

have you removed the wind sheild wippers, and the sprayers/bottles? i took the whole front system out and the bottle was full, felt like 5-10 lbs...

I am looking at pulling the wiring for the cruise control right now and I am curious as to whether or not yours had wiring for an automatic tranny. I am lost right now looking at the diagrams as it shows wiring for an auto no matter what. Also the wiring for those pins related to the automatic ECU are not the same colors as what is shown in the circuit diagram. Any thoughts? Thanks

I know its been awhile but since this thread is back...
Like I said, I did pull all the wiring for the cruise control. Basically just followed them everywhere they went and cut them as I went along.
As for other wiring, I actually didnt even use a wiring diagram or anything. You will find that our cars have a few plugs that are not used for anything. I followed the wiring from each of these unused plugs and pulled those wires out as well.
Then when it came to my AC, I just unplugged the AC harness and followed it from there.

Well, as of right now I have just decided to make my own harness. I will only be including the necessities for the car lights, wipers, radio, windows, and sunroof. I have basically decided to remove everything that I would only use on a rare occasion. My whole objective has been to drop weight in order to overcome the weight that will be going back into the car in the form of a roll cage and system stereo. Thanks for all of the help guys.

You should try and document how much weight you're actually pulling out by doing this . . . :)
Might be some good info to know

well, first weigh the manual stuff, then when you pull the power stuff out, weigh it. that way you really know the DIFFERENCE in weight. I'm doing that will all my parts I'm replacing/removing (exhaust, turbo, wheels, emissions crap, sound material, seats, EVERYTHING, - and eventually fiberglass body panels and lexan) Let us know!

your willing to rip out a complete wiring harness and modify it but not willing to ditch the power windows/door locks and stereo? doesnt make much sense to me. But good luck with it, You should deff. do a write up on it. also another option to look into would be a Painless universal wiring harness and they also make new "race car" wiring harness' too. good luck though and I'd love to see some pictures of this.

Some guy with a 300zx around here cut about 40 lbs off by taking out his gas tank and using a smaller, plastic 3 gallon tank. He mounted it mid center of the vehicle and you can see how much gas is left by looking through a clear part. Its kinda cool looking, and saves LOTS of weight.

Ill get more info if you guys want

I never use the back seats..and i was looking for a way to lighten my car...even if its only a few ounces. But i also wanted it to look half decent..i didnt want some one to look in and go..."who would steal that" :D

so i took out the backs of my rear seats...cut the excess carpet off the back and buttoned it up.

Came out really clean. it doesn't look to weird. and its more roomy. ROFL
I can put the cargo net up and down for when i need it.
