I personally am looking to do some weight reduction while retaining the quiet/smooth ride, and still having a spare so I can go on the highway without getting flatbedded home.

heres some of my ideas, just normal of course.

CF hood
Ditch all of my stereo and just get upgraded 6x9, 5.25, and 3.5's hooked to the factory amp/deck.
CF Hatch<<<Anyone make one for us?
CF Spoiler<<Anyone make it?
Dimple Drilled/Slotted Rotors

What else is there? I dont wanna tear out all the sound deadening or the spare tire.

Wow, 3 whole HP.

LOL, yes, removing the seat totally increases air flow through the engine giving you 3 HP!!! This guy is genious!

Replace your Back window and back side windows with Clear Plastic, saves around 60 Lbs

Well a general rule of thumb is that every 100lbs makes a .1 of a difference in the quarter mile. So removing around 100lbs and you should run 1 tenth faster.

I also think that you'll have better handling. But I'm doing it for straight line acel.
- did anyone else notice a weird smell from the trunk after removing the panels? kinda like a tar smell?

Why would you put all that time into the car in order to save maybe .3 seconds, that just doesnt even seem worth it to me, I mean there are plenty of options to gain that time without having to cut everything out. Did i hear nitrous? :)

i'd rather cut stuff out that is holding back the car instead of spending the xhundred dollars on nitrous...lets blow up my motor to drop a half second. if you have a turbo already there isn't much that can say spending the money to set up a nitrous system is better than upgrading your turbo setup...

cutting weight is as good as adding power, and does affect the way the car handles. 3 tenths is a lot, especially at speed.

Well if you think about it..... these motors and trannys are pretty small and they have to lug around 3000 lbs of weight all around. If you take some weight off of it maybe it could be less wear on your drivetrain parts if you have AWD. For how hard we launch these cars and with how small everything is the more weight we take out the better it is for a lof of different things in the car. Not always acceleration. I mean I might be wrong on some of this stuff but the more I think about it it could help out a lot more things in the car as well. 300 lbs might not be much but if you have AWD and lets say you do a 1.7 60' time, that is 300lbs less the drivetrain has to lug around and accelerate that fast.

Most people dont mention is yourself. Like myself instead of pulling little stuff out of the car my fat ass needs to get down to 160 not 200 as I am now. There is 40 pounds right there in weight savings

Funny its not HP you gain, its more of faster acceleration.

Everything out of my trunk and my back seats with 1/4 of tank of gas plus me in the car, I weighed 2900.

I'm at 2850lbs total weight with myself, 1/4 tank, the rear seat and spare tire.

Removed-
*what little tar paper there is on the floor boards
*carpeting insulation
*passenger side airbag
*insulation all the way up the firewall on the inside
*power steering pump, lines and reservoir
*A/C compressor, lines, condensor/evap/drier
*all unecessary BS on the firewall. (minimal)
*Evap/charcoal canister, emissions related crap

I only weigh 160lbs, so you do the math.

Next up is an AWD gastank which is constructed from plastic and significantly lighter than the stamped steel 2G fwd tank.

The piece of metal in the glovebox weighed around 5lbs. It took me around 30 min to get it out. First take out the glovebox, and take off the backing. You'll have to break the seal on it to take the backing off by carefully prying on it and I think you have to unscrew the lock mechanism too. Now you should see the metal piece held in place by a bunch of pieces of plastic from the front. I drilled these out with a 3/8 bit and eventually got it off. I then screwed and glued the glovebox back together and reinstalled.

It just pointless. Unless you are wanting to go out and do road racing, just have the car for drag racing. Pull the radio speakes and the wireing for the radio. Remove all the plastic in the car, Remove all you can of factory parts like stock fenders and replase with Fiberglass, look into a carbon Fiber hood and hatch, remove the front bumper support remove all unessary seats, Basicly just gut the car. Look at most of your true race cars theres really nothing to them, but taking a car that you drive all the time or just out for the summer its pointless your actually killing the value of the car. Now I will agree with removing the A/C. Cause you really don't need it just roll down the windows.

There is a company that has told me they sell carbon fiber stuff that will shave approx 500lbs. for $3,000.

Here is what I did so far:

front bumper support.
rear bumper support.
Fidenza flywheel (stock is 21 or so lbs)This one is around 8-9lbs
removed all windshield washer bottles/lines etc.
removed/shaved rear wiper, removed wiper motor etc in rear
removed/shaved antenna and removed all the wiring
Liteweight battery(stock is like 42lbs)
heatshield under the middle of the car for exhaust.
All of the a/c and components removed
Drivers side fan removed
cruise control removed
rear speakers removed
cut the spare tire well out and put in sheet metal
cut many un-needed brackets out.
cut underside of hatch lid out
removed ALL interior plastics from behind the front seats
removed all carpet also
removed all sound deadening material
cut some more
removed all the shit glued to the carpet in the front
removed stock amp
removed alot of wiring that was un-needed.

I took out so much stuff I don't actually remember what I even took out anymore. I still have some more I will be removing. (c/f hood, remove headliner/sound material from roof, Remove dash and take out all the shit that is not needed behind it and then reinstall just the skin of the dash board... ETC ETC ETC...

In my last 1g, I removed almost 600lbs.

Newbie Question! haha ok my question is...if i take out my car jack, spare tire, back seats, etc....does the weight reduction really make that much of a difference or can you not even tell...I have a n/t 1g eclipse and not too much money to put into mods right now....so im just looking for anything.....but im not gonna take out my spare wheel and everything and be stuck with a flat on the side of the road when it really made no difference at all..

Weight reduction can help a lot, if you take out a lot. Some guys will gut their cars significantly and drop hundreds of pounds. Then you will definitely notice a difference. Something around the area of 1/10th of a second for every 100 pounds or so. I thought i read that on one of the posts around here. Do a search for them and you will find tons of info. Also look up project good will, that thing is ridiculous. Here is a list of some weights of parts on a dsm.

hmm thats really interesting....i would probably end up only taking out my jack and tire and possibly back seats...but i dont even know if i want to do that ### then the car will look even more like garbage haha...and i doubt just taking out the tire is anywhere near worth it...thanks though

If you go to the auto parts store there is a yellow can I believe called Fix-A-Flat. This stuff works. On my other car I found it flat with a nail in it early one morning. I followed the direction and sure enough it lifted the rim off the ground about 1.5 inches, enough to get to the gas station air pump. it held for about a day and a half then I had the tire repaired.

Since I have taken everything out of my eagle and keep 2 cans in the trunk just in case.

Dont take the back seats out they weigh practically nothing. I removed AC, powersteering, pop up light motors, front bumber support, cruis control, sound deadening crap, and some other stuff. Weighed in without me in it at 2880lb. Helped out a lot, I eat up cars with about the same power because of it.

leave everything in unless you are plannin on going to the track everyday. you could take out your back seat and put in a piece of thin lightweight carpeted fiberglass or plywood in there so that you cant see the metal. But it is senseless to take that stuff out and then get screwed. Good luck on your decision hope you make the right one. Aslo I did the jack and tire delete but I put it right back in because no diff was felt.

POWERSTEERING!!! What? Are you Serious? That will just make it unbelievably hard to turn. I recommend leaving the PS in.

If you have Z rated, or better tires... Fix-a-flat is bad (Read the Warnings on the Can) Otherwise... great idea

you wont notice enough from what your trying to do and youll be out of luck when you need that stuff your taking out... its not worth it if its a everyday driver..
If your really trying to loose weight look into lightwt hatches, and hoods, and lightwt doors and stripping the whole interior to make it look ugly and then yea, i can say there will be a difference... And to be honest everytime I did something to my car, or did somethin to make it faster it was faster for that day only, and after that everything starts to feel the same again and you find yourself wanting more ...

Yeah I heard about that stuff...sounds good...but yeah i dont think ill be taking anything out though because ill end up hating it without back seats...i HATE driving without power steering (although i might have to love it later on because my rack and pinion are really rusted) and just taking out the tire and jack prob wont do crap....thanks for the tips though guys..i appreciate it

i also replaced my power steering with a manual rack. it really isn't very hard to turn the wheel. after a few days of driving you forget that you don't have power steering. for me it makes the car more enjoyable to drive as you get more feedback from the road.
