.....and if my memory serves me correctly...he was the first guy to run 11's in a 2G......as stated above, a copper GSX. As I remember, the first guy to gain some notoriety in the 2G world was Ken Krejei(sp?) He had a 2g talon that was painted in white and purple with an electric charged scallop type design and was running low 12's....a member of the Buschur camp. But then it was Doug that set the pace early with his GSX.

Sean i just want to thank you for helping me win 200$ back in 2003 or 2004 when you raced shep at e-town, I clearly remeber you cutting a better 60ft then him ( like a 1.1) but you had problems and shut it right down after the 60ft. I had 200$ on shep with my friend Jesse. I bought a used set of 550s with it so I could throw my 20g on and ran 12.3x from my 13.1x on my 14b, thanx again!

Not gonna outline these as they are pretty self explanatory. Sorry it's been a while. As much as there is some interest in this thread, it seems to get buried pretty quickly. Probably another reason I slacked off on it. Anyway, here's a decent update. The reception will decide if I put any more effort into the thread. Enjoy!

I wish I was in the DSM game back then. These cars were so popular it seems.

Wow, it was pretty stagnate for about 6 months there but that last update is more like it. I guess the Shep/Glazer 1st place swapping started back in 1998. When I got in the scene '03-'05 they were swapping back and forth every weekend it seemed. It's clear who came out on top in the end, but that was some exciting drag racing! Keep this thread up Phil, we want ALL the info you have in your little white binder!

Lots of familiar names on those lists.

It's weird to see Brent Rau at #20. I can remember when his car was still AWD.

I was just going to say the same thing Paul. Brent 11.9s. Those were the days! I still remember him in the back seat of my GST impressed it was only on a T25. It pulled nice compared to the GSX on the highway.

Wow, we're coming up to the best times. What's funny is all this time, we used to think stock blocks couldn't handle anything past 10.50's for such a long time. Now it seems everyone is pushing these motor 20 years later.

Shep run's his motors, right? I pretty sure it wouldn't be much for him to throw something together that'd be faster shep's car. The real question is how fast would Dave like to go.

    Phil,
Do you have the slip where Shep first purchased the 4bangr? If so, see if it lists the track on it...does it say Dragway 42 in West Salem Ohio? I think it is later than the last slip you posted a picture of. I always thought Dave ran his 11.0's in the thing, then sold it to Shep and he ran 10's after small changes? Either way the first time I ever went to a Drag strip (Dragway42) was the night Shep first ran the 4bangr after buying it from Dave Buschur. I remember it because Buschur, Tym Switzer, Shepherd, Kevin Lawson, and Mark Hallman were all there. If I remember right he ran one or two ten second passes, and then the oil filter o ring blew off and he had to stop (don't think anything blew up). I have been hooked on these cars ever since!

Phil, keep the timeslip updates coming! Always nice to go down memory lane, as I thoroughly enjoy seeing the history in the racing scene in the 90's for the DSM world. Back then, I was into RX-7's, and I didn't get into the DSM world until 2001, and ALOT had already been accomplished in our community. I only hope that the community continues to advance forward with this dying platform with the technological advancements now available for years to come!

As for Dave thread-jacking, he can make his own thread to discuss his new DSM project. Everyone else can respond in that. Let's keep this thread on topic.

Huh, good to know but now being AWD and many many more bunches of HP these days i'd rather be able to throw up a better time. back when i did it a 12.08 in FWD 2g was impressive and first page worthy.. now it's slow so i'm not worried, i don't even know where the slip is to get my real 60 foot or anything any more this has been near 10 years ago LOL

No, nothing is nerver as easy as one would think. Dave to my knowlegde, builds Shep's motors and probaly knows more about Shep's car then any of us. He has alot of knowledge, and wouldn't have to start from scatch or trial and error. If anyone could go faster then the fastest in my opinion. Who else would you say, could or would be able to go faster then Shep then Dave? It's not hard to imagine what could be done on just his resoures alone. I'm not bench racing, but i'd say he have a shot better then most. He's also been 8's years before his time. With current or better equipment the sky is the limit for what could happen. He used a T-67 and a vpc to run 8s. I don't think, I have much more to say on the topic.

thats an understatement by the looks of it................:hmm:

But either way.... whats any of it matter? Go as fast as you can with the equipment you have and have fun.......... that what it all boils down to.

Lightweight tube frame car with undersized tubing vs a factory chassis car is two different worlds. You could continue talking about that if you would like. Your ramblings are definitely amusing.

I use to build his engines, when he ran 7.70 I was building them. He does them now. I have no desire to build an AWD DSM to try to compete with John's 7 second times. That is not my goal at all.

I ran 11.05 at 127 mph in the 4bangr. I sold it to John with a broken rear diff in it. He got it and put it on the alignment rack, found out the alignment was whacked and then took it to the track. Between the alignment and his driving the car ran 10.72 at 131 mph. I wasn't there when he ran the 10's from what I remember. You sure you aren't thinking of his Red '92?

Actually, neither car could be considered a factory chassis. I have no desire to go after Shepherd's 7 second AWD times, none at all. It wouldn't be easy for anyone to try and match those times and MPH, not me, not anyone. His accomplishments are ridiculous in that car.

I didn't realize after being asked what I'd do different and being one of the main people being talked about in this thread that stating I was building a new DSM was a thread jack..........but OK cletus.

Hey, I finally made it to top 30 (July 98). That was an awesome Shootout! First year that it was combined with IDRC race. I think I made $1200 in prize money ($200 for shootout and the $1000 for IDRC). Good old times!

I remember sticking with Stock Appeaing class set-up a lot longer than I should have... But it worked well in '98 :). That was the year that Shep moved onto DSE, so SA was up for taking :).

The sad part was that my 12.06 would not have been enough to beat John's 11.90, a year yearlier... BTW, back then, we were both running around 21psi of boost. Can you say:"VPC magic?" :)
