Hey I was wondering if you guys could give me some insight on my planned build.
My 99 GSX was bone stock when I bought it with ~110k on the odometer. Since the purchase I have done just about all of the maintenance on the site's Maintenance Guide save for an oil leak and some rattles here and there that should be cleared up soon. Cosmetically there's some work as well, but that's why it's a build right?

My plan is to make this car the perfect Daily Driver. Reliable, Fun, and Well Rounded.
320WHP/340WTQ on 93 Pump Gas

I'm open to any and all input to help me reach my goals safely and effectively. Again, this car will be daily driver and I am counting on it to get me from A to B while keeping the prices of mods down but keeping quality of parts respectable.

Relevant Future Mods
b16g/E316g
Thermal Exhaust
Ebay Intake Pipe & K&N Filter
Punishment Racing FMIC
Evo 8/9 Fuel Pump
880-1050cc injectors
Hallman MBC
1G BOV
Innovate G2 Wideband
Autometer Ultra-Lite Boost Gauge
UndecidedBrand Oil Pressure Gauge
Tactrix Openport 2.0 (Assuming Learning Curve isn't too high)

Misc. Future Mods

Full Stereo and Some Sound Deadening
Brass Shifter Cable and Aluminum Shifter Base Bushings (Done)
B&M Short Shifter
Energy Suspension or Prothane Chassis Bushings (haven't decided on which stiffness I want)
Undecided Suspension Setup (Looking for an affordable drop (~1.5") that can handle reasonably well in spirited driving and the occasional autocross session)
Compworks Fender Braces
Gates Racing Belts (Done)
BSEK (Done)

Yeah you're unlikely to make 320whp with those mods without some cams and e85. With that mod list you're looking at 260-270whp max on 93 pump.

Are you going to be running pump gas or e-85? Judging by the fuel pump I was guessing pump gas, but figured I'd ask to be sure.

Correct, 93 Pump Gas.

I need cams and e85 to make 320whp on a Evo 3 16g with supporting mods?

Looks good I you should be able to get that hp with the mods you have, fuel, turbo.

Thanks!

That's not true, I've seen plenty of 16g powered cars hit or get close to the 300whp mark on 93 with stock cams.

Yes, you will want cams if you are going for 320hp/340tq, it will make your life SO much easier but it has been done without.

X3 on the cams, they beat me to it.

Even though HKS cams are pretty expensive I picked up a good used pair for 200 from a shop...dig around you'll find luck.

320 WHP out of a big 16g is just Maxing it out I think ...your already queezing the life out if it...I may be wrong.

Ever thought of any other internal works?

And maybe a shot of nitrous just to meet your numbers on a good efficient tune no ones telling you this numbers aren't reachable God speed bro looking forward to the build.

Why would you use such big injectors? Why not use 650CC or 750CC to save a little bit of money. Unless you want to be up in the 400 range.

JMO.

You can look at my mods but I have just a little bit more done than you. When I first tuned it conservatively with 93 @ 18/19psi, DSMlink's butt dyno said 270-80whp. Now when get I my DKS 272's, port my intake manifold, and run an aggressive tune, I should be around 320whp. While I may be underestimating the power I will gain I'm not getting my hopes up just because another person has pulled it off. To recap, get cams. More importantly for your power, Delta (DKS) cams are cheap and will suffice just fine.

I also suggest adding a set of 272 cams to the list. I've used delta cams in both of my cars. $250 for the set I believe. e85 would make your goal MUCH easier, but it's not very necessary. I would bring it somewhere to have it dyno tuned to get the most out of the car.

A nice fmic should be one the list too. I really liked my Punishment kit on my old 2g, which had a nearly identical setup to what you plan on doing.

I forgot about delta cams good thing is I had a spare set of stock cams I can send them, a good tune will be good grab some bigger fuel injectors since you have link and like mentioned run some e 85.

You need a fmic, and good luck with those numbers, I made the numbers on my profile with a similar setup (see my mods list). This was thru an auto transmission on a mustang dyno, but still if it was 5 speed it would have only been around 250 if I was lucky on a dynojet.

Thanks for the advice guys, didn't think it would get this much feedback.

I will definitely look into Delta Cams and possibly HKS's 264/272s with some ARP head studs while I'm at it.. I want to keep it pretty simple so I'd rather reduce power goals than do major internal work unless something comes up. So no on the nitrous as well and probably not water/meth either.

Grab some cams quite a few choices out there to help things out, looking at grabbing me some down the road.

Just in case I stepped up to a Holset HX35 later I was thinking. The price seemed close enough that it would be worth just going for it now instead of replacing them down the line.

Your also going to need a nice size innercooler with all the hot air that turbo is going to make and also the fuel.

Completely forgot to add the PR FMIC! Hope that doesn't change too much.

Doubt you'd be getting those numbers without E-85 or cams. I made 310/288 on 91 and 360/325 on e85 with cams.

And to the rest of the guys, I guess I need to do some more research but I thought the Evo 3 16g was good for the mid 300 range without E85, cams, SMIM, etc but I guess I was wrong. I knew it would be pushing it for the B16g and near impossible for a 14b but I thought that was reasonable for the e316g. :idontknow:

My numbers were on a B16g, not an Evo 3. You might have better luck with a fresh turbo as mine is about 4 years old and couldnt make over 25lb of boost. I know some of these are able to put out 30lb and tapper down. Sooo maybe, if you're lucky

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is where I will be at with just the E316g with moderate boost on a safe tune before cams, so I know I have room to grow, instead of putting on a big 16g/small 16g/14b, etc and just maxing it out trying to reach the mid 300s and failing.

I would just go with a 20g and call it a day but I'm looking for the quickest spool possible.

Another fmic option is the vrsf kit. I looked at the PR kit when is was looking at intercoolers butr after reading around the vrsf wasd worth a little more money to me. Little to no fab work needed. Love the core.

some guy said he made 600 whp with the vrsf and it still held strong. For that price its definitely worth it with that 3.5" core.

"Some guy" might also have a tubular exhaust manifold, smim, well degreed cams, and a killer tune, and might have gained more power from a real core.

China cores are what you pay for.

Meth injection. Cheap and effective. You can run very high boost with that little evo, netting you the numbers you are looking for(and higher)
